I have friend in Chelyabinsk, she has cell phone with megafon. I have cell phone with tmobile in usa.
For her to send me an SMS, what should she dial?
The international access code for Russia is 810, correct?
I know the country code for the US is 1.
Help!! Thank you.

For her to text you she should use +1xxxxxxxxxx no 8 10 no zeroes. You can also use +7 and her number.
You may also be able to use web-based SMS interfaces if that doesn't work. |

She said she tried it and I have not received a message. I will ask her again.
I say a reference suggesting she try 8**10+1+xxxxxxxxxx or 00+1+xxxxxxxxxx.
Ugh. |

That means that the text message gets blocked somewhere on the way. It is often the case with Russia: international cell phone providers block text messages from Russia to avoid spam often.
Ask her to try and text a message to + 44 7624 802 552
This is a virtual mobile number and I'll be able to see what the problem is. |

WayTo... Thanks amigo!!! I may have my friend try texting you.
I can send to her (again from the USA/Tmobile to her Russia-Urals/Megafon). She cannot send to me. Megafon reports on her phone that the message was delivered (even a reply to my original SMS)-I did not receive. Megafon says it is a USA problem. I have a trouble ticket started with TMobile.
I just have to believe that many people from within Russia using Megafon successfully send SMS messages to USA-TMobile phones every minute of every day or am I being naive?

| I have used T-Mobile for years. I generally have no problem to send or recieve sms to and from Russia. From Russia to USA +1 xxx-xxx-xxxx ...To Russia from USA +7 xxx-xxx-xxxx. One time a few years ago, I had a problem to send and receive sms to and from Russia. However, I called to T-mobile and the problem was fixed within a few days. I have had no other problem before this or since. |

| Yeah, thanks guys. I really do not understand it. I know she sends from the Urals region but still I expected it to work. I have a TMobile prepaid service which is a "lesser" service but I still expect it to work. I've logged a call with TMobile on Saturday 1/13. TMobile says they will fix within 15 days.[/code] |

Can you tell me which company are the best and the price of a sim card as well as sending texts and making calls.
Thanks |

| The offers change constantly. It's best to check it when you get there. Last time I was there Megafon was the best, the time before it was beiline. They are prepaid and like everything else in Russia you need to show your passport and fill out forms. |
