Hello to all on this wonderful and informative forum. I have been reading and gleaning information from this site for quite a while now.
I was primarily interested in advise regarding crossing the Bering Strait. And most of what i found was negative, stating it couldn't and shouldn't be done!
Well it has been done a number of times, and we the F.A.D.D team (Friends and Diesel Dependant) are going to undertake the challenge again. Yes we have the well equipped vehicle with All wheel drive diff locks etc. And experience of driving conditions and the extreme cold.
We are scheduling our Lorry arriving in Magadan in late December 07. So that we might drive the Frozen rivers in January 08. If anyone else is looking at this trip as a possibility please send me a mail. Pm. Or list here. We would love to share our 40ft container. The cost is approximately $3,690 plus documentation. Your mode of transport needs to be thoroughly equipped.(Or you can take a smart car, I ain't towing you far) You may choose to convoy with us through to Mongolia. However there we would wave goodbye. As we have commitments there before heading to Georgia. |

The "other" posts about crossing the bering straights were exactly that - impractical. You know somethings wrong when people start to ask about ferries. Shipping a car in a container to magadan from any old port in america that can handle containers is purely a matter of logistics and should not pose too many problems. Your assessment of the other advice is a little harsh.
Good luck with your trip as its going to be a cold one!

Sorry Les and other forum members if my post sounded a little harsh. Really didn't mean it that way ....
I guess i just wanted to avoid responses saying it cant be done! Again sorry..
In ten years there may well be an all round ferry service at the current rate of global warming! But we just cant wait that long, and it wouldn't be half the fun if it were easy |
