These are excerpts from "A Russian Course" by Al Lipson. The book is basically a satire of Soviet society. Lipson has great fun dissing the cultural mores of the time. He was a professor at Harvard until his early death in the 80's due to cancer. I have met him many times; indeed, one had to meet him to get his approval to use his text. At the time in the early 70's I taught Russian in high school.
Lipson's use of "rituals" is very entertaining, as are his dialogues which make fun of soviet political correctness.

I really like this textbook--I find it quite useful and it definitely brightens up language study! Even the little doodles make me laugh! Very Happy
