I'm so sick of hearing on some forums, a lot on Youtube, people from North America esspeccially calling Russians "Commies", "pricks", "rooskies", etc. I think it's dumb, and it's not alright, it's insulting to many people and it has to stop. How would American like it if we called them "rednecks" or "hillbillys", or how would the Canadian people feel if we addressed them as "loonies"? I understand that for some people the Cold War still isn't over, but if that's the case they should go see a psychiatrist, not pour it out on innocent bystanders!

And now in modern Russia, it's waaaaaaaay less, about 50-60 thousand. Let's not be ignorant people. Let's not generalise. Not all Muslims are terrorists. Not all Russians are Communists. OK?

In fact I rarely heard it in the late 70's when I was growing up, old people used it, and now they are all dead or near enough to it. In my country anyway. The term "prick" can, and should be, applied to any person of any nationality when they piss you off. There is nothing specifically directed at Russians in such a reference. Rooskie, well in my book thats just a translation into English of "Русский". Is there another way to describe a Russian? Rest assured that most of the world does not hold Russian people in a lowly light. And it's great tp see some "Rooskie" related postings on this forum at last.

Some people just enjoy insulting one another... just let them be ignorant and wallow in their filthy bliss. Americans do get called rednecks and hillbillies. I'm sure Americans and Canadians get their fair share of insults here!

"Prick" has never been a word reserved for Comm ..., err, I mean Russians. It can be (and is) applied to any nationality. It is definitely directed at the person and not his nationality. I get called it all the time! I mostly hear "Rooskie" in grade "b" movies. If it is used in normal conversation, I don't think it is meant to be offensive. (perhaps an English speaker is showing off that he knows a word of Russian).

I live in the Southern America, we get called rednecks and hillbilly's all the time also, we are called bible thumpers, holy rollers. I get tired of it but, you are not going to stop it so, if you feel offended with the words then you should get over it real quick because you are not going to change old words that has been around for years. Every country or state get names from things that happen in the past and it seems to stick around even when we hate it. Yeah, the innocent bystanders are always the ones who suffer, anywhere. Nikir, is right on the words Rooskie, prick. Rooskie is on all the Russian covers of the language phrase books to identify the book. Prick is just another word for jerk or idiot. If you could give me a dollar for everytime someone used the word jerk or idiot, I would be a millionaire by now.

Just this Canadian on this blog on Youtube kept calling me "Commie" for a very long, so I ignored it, and ignored it, but in the end I got pissed off. lol

Chinese, Vietna,ese, Leftest liberals, etc. Prick is another word for dick...and so those who were calling you a commie are certainly those. I tend to use Ruski in a general polite way or nick name for russian...not demeaning at all. As far as hill billies or red necks...we have plenty of those here and around the world...they come in many varieties. But they are more prevalent in our Southern United States. They run around bare foot...in overalls with no shirt on, straw in thier mouths, teeth missing, speak with a heavy southern drawl, chew tobacco, drive big lifted trucks and listen to country, Blue grass, or Southern Rock (Lynyrd Skynyrd) watch the Dukes of Hazzard, live in trailers, and drink Bud. And wear John Deere hats. Usually don't shave, shower, women are barefoot and pregnant...and bruised...yes red necks they are every where just termed differently in dother places.
