The centre of Vlad is small, so it would be hard to get lost. As for getting cheated, that can happen anywhere.

We felt safe in Vlad walking at night, mind you, we were two guys. Thinking back, I don't think I would hesitate to go about at night even by myself. It's a regular city, little old ladies walk around by themselves, too.

incredibly safe.

i'm here now.. my 3rd night out of 7 total.

i've gone out everynight.. first night came home at 3am.. second night at 1am.. walked around everywhere at night.. by myself - a guy.

actually i feel very safe here. i'm also pale-skinned.. so i think people just assume i'm russsian as well.

but a lot of people out at night everywhere.. a lot of drinking goes on in the streets.. kind of like spain. mostly young people - don't see many gruff scarey types around.

Yes!

I'd say Vladivostok (and much of the rest of Russia) was safer than any large European city.

lets refer to statistics.
26 апреля 2005 года, Александра Мышкина
Число убийств во Владивостоке возросло на треть.
С начала года в столице Приморья совершено 63 умышленных убийства. За аналогичный период 2004-го - только 41.

63 murders for jan1- apr26. 252 murders per year per 600000 inhabitants. It is more than 40 per 100.000. Comparing to 2 for London and 5 for Paris, I wouldn't consider Vladivostok safer than european cities.
Moscow rate is about 15-18.

I think with murder rates you have to differentiate between motives. If most murders are associated with crime...say gangs against gangs then that doesn't mean the city might not be safe. It would translate into it's not safe to be in a gang. But when attacks on foriegners are high well then it doesn't pay to be a foreigner.

7-15 years ago it was very dangerous there becouse of the largest right wheel steering cars market there - if you will be there - you have to vizit it/ it called Zeleniy ugol (Green corner). But nowadays people there (including crime - and it very importent!)decide change situation and now there very quietly.
