Sorry. Today I will go to Vladivostok/ and have to sleep a little bit. When I will come back I'll answer necessarily!!! (if ). Now, please, could you say me - do you really have pure democracy in USA (for my understanding it is abstract as ideal love - we could only believe in it). President - do you believe that this men really take part in control country (of course not true that a little quantity of man make a real politic inside and outside country and have unlimited power for..)
What do you do if you are very old and wise(sometimes your life was bed with a big mistakes but it is your life) and could'nt answer equal to one very strong mad agressive(I especcially say it) teenager(nothing personality - it is only abstract)who by fist teaching you how better for you be in this world. One part of you think that it is right becouse very strong men with you (sometime he rob you - take most of your valuable - but he could save you from.......from..... you don't know from becouse you have very big expierence and know that only one treatment - this teenager, but may be....you was beaten very much you are wery weakless now you need some help - may be this teenager take pity and would help you to survive by one peace of bread

. I have no need to defend democracy, it is a great thing. You are starting to sound a little silly here. - We had it in USSR. Later we understood our big mistake! I dont know may be it is crowd effect but if you would try that time to doubt our communist(ideal wonderful theory - but only theory like all other - fashism, democracy, quantity of the star - it doesnt matter becouse we are people and theory are for help us if we need it - not opposite) I would kill you or other without any doubt that time like most of us that time. And then we would be proud of it becouse we killed communist enemys. May be later, much more later you will understand it - not now. Today you are so strong! and big power could nt give you look around like part of our very old world - not like master, boss.
Wish you luck.
My respect for all my critic.
Happy journey for me
See you later |

The USA is a Republic not a democracy...there is a difference and it was designed to specifically be this way |

And yorbcbud i think europe has got more of an edge in the scientific field. |
Well voting him back in after he has already screwed up in Iraq does make it their fault, or are you missing the gist of a democracy here. Remember they voted him in for a second term. It's the people's fault, or at least the ones that voted.
And I disagree with your statement about scientific discoveries. I could look it up, but the advances in medicine are generally coming from North America, because we have the money to fund the research. Space exploration? Same thing. |

We are both just stating the obvious. Re-electing Bush had to have been a low point in American judgement. I'll continue when we go back to talking about Russia. The subject of America has surpassed the state of boredom for me. I'm tired of it. Who cares about America? I came here to learn about Russia. |

Below are the results of a poll that I found interesting and illustrative of public opinion in today's Russia (http://www.rbcnews.com/free/20070328104912.shtml)
| Quote: | RBC, 28.03.2007, Moscow 10:49:12.The All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center has polled 1,600 people in 153 locations of Russia's regions and republics about what associations they had with such word symbols as 'order', 'property', 'socialism', 'business' etc.
Such notions as 'order' (58 percent) and 'justice' (49 percent) aroused the most positive emotions, followed by 'stability' (38 percent), 'welfare' (37 percent), 'freedom' (37 percent), 'patriotism' (35 percent), 'Russians' (34 percent), 'human rights' (33 percent), 'labor' (31 percent) and 'success' (31 percent). These words were found to cause negative emotions with no more than 3 percent of poll participants.
Most negatively Russians perceive such notions as 'elite' (41 percent) 'non-Russians' (29 percent), 'capitalism' (26 percent), 'revolution' (22 percent), and 'the West' (23 percent). Most controversial proved such words as 'socialism' (12 percent of positive and 11 percent of negative responses), 'wealth' (12 against 12 percent), 'democracy' (15 against 9 percent), 'market' (10 against 15 percent), and 'power' (9 against 11 percent). |
The Russian version of the article also quotes the by age breakdown, which is omitted in the English version for some reason. 'Socialism', 'communism' and 'Soviet Union' are more significant to the older generations. Among those who are between 18 and 24 these notions appear positive to 3%-5% while the age group of 60+ shows 14% to 25% of positive attitude. The latter group also values the concepts of 'justice', 'labour' and 'patriotism' more than 'Russian', 'freedom', 'prosperity', 'wealth', 'property', 'business', 'success', 'comfort' and 'progress'. The younger the poll participants are the more negatively they view 'non-Russian', 'communism' and 'the Soviet Union' while 'capitalism', 'market' and 'business' cause less negative sentiments.
I am really alarmed by the fact that almost one third of all those questioned expressed negative attitude towards 'non-Russians' and this trend becomes very characteristic among the young. For such a multi-cultural nation as Russia this may become very destructive, especially because in this country most 'non-Russians' are not immigrants! |

Unfortunately, we cannot have the same kind of discussion about Russia since the upcoming elections there would be decided by one man - Putin. There's very little left of real democracy in Russia. |

I have to say we are in agreement on that one. I suppose it goes to show that absolute power really does corrupt absolutely, no matter where you live. |
