Recently, while in search of Russian music I ran across a CD with Alla Pugacheva "River Ferryman" which is, in my opinion, totally awesome. I don't understand all the words, but just the sound is something else.

I can see why she became a pop Diva.

I would like to learn more about her and other Russian music from a Russian perspective. Lyrics would be nice too.

I thought it would be nice to try to go into Russian music for all of us to learn who don't already know.

Mark, I;m not familiar with Alla Pugacheva's music but I found another site with some Russian "classic rock" MP3's on it. The leader of the group is Konstantin Nikolsky and the url is http://russia-in-us.com/Music/Rock/Nikolsky/
It's kindof easy rock, enjoyable but alas, no lyrics, chords, or tablature. Check it out. DennisF
PS: Everyone have a great holiday season!

Normally mp3s take so long to download especially only using a 56 k modem. I don't have DSL or anything like that.

But I'll try it and see what happens. I am actually geting a good download speed. 5.1kb/s.

I like to buy CDs

In the states there is: http://www.ruskniga.com/

I just didn't know what artists to look for.

Do you have a last name for Ariya?
Who is Balaban?

While were on the subject of speed, is there high-speed internet in Russia? I was shocked when I got ~ 150 kb/s on those songs, I thought it would be a lot slower...Good stuff.

Alice

I got the name Balaban from the website link you provided.

I got all 3 songs okay. They downloaded fater than I expected for a 56 k modem.

I tried a Goggle search of Ariya to try to find a CD.

Thanks for the other link. I couldn't find any name I recognized, but I saved it for future reference.

Actually the link I provided is that. http://www.ruskniga.com/

It was on the Alla Pugacheva "River Ferryman" CD.

I was actually looking for suggestions of bands/music. I don't mind looking for them myself.

My sound card isn't working right so I can't listen to those right off. I need a new CD RW drive and I'll burn those mp3's to CD. My DVD player will play MP3's.

I think a person could make some money importing inexpensive American electronics to the FSU, but the only problem would be the current conversion.

DVDs and VCRs have gotten really cheap here. My DVD player is a good one which only cost me $40. Once the prices drop, which they are already starting to do, I will buy a DVD recorder. I say the first computer one for about $100.

Thanks

Mark
