In july I'm going to be traveling from Tallinn to St.Petersburg.

Normally I'm more of a just wing it kind of traveler but my dad is going to be joining me for this part of the trip I need to try and have some sort of a plan.

I've been looking for the best way to get from Tallinn to St.Petersburg but am having trouble getting any current info. It looks like some of the ferry lines no longer offer that route. I am also having troubles finding any train that make the trip.

If anyone has any solid info on where I can find a ticket on either a ferry or train please let me know.

You can e-mail me: Bonnie_Loudon@hotmail.com

THANK YOU!!!

I am to travel from Tallinn to St.Petersburg in a couple of weeks time; can anyone tell me about the standard of the bus and the journey. The Eurolines website shows a modern comfortable bus and I wondered if the bus used is like that. Also I am looking forward to the journey - is it flat, mountainous, scenic ? - I have not yet purchased a map. Question

Esthers,
The Eurolines bus is comfortable and clean enough, just as it appears.

Hopefully this link below should give you an idea of the trip. I only did the journey during the night-time from St. Pete to Tallinn, so can't offer any descriptions of the scenery in detail. But for certain, there are no mountains and much of Estonia is full of marshland.

Hiya,

I'm planning on doing this trip in reverse i.e. St Petersburg to Tallinn as part of a round trip Riga > Moscow > St P > Tallin

Is the bus the only option? Is it advisable to book it in advance or on the day in St Petersburg?

Thanks,

Mark

Yes, the bus is still the only option. In summer it would be better to book a couple of days in advance, so probably as soon as you arrive in St Petersburg.

By the way, if you go Tallin - Moscow - St Petersburg - Riga then you can take the train on each leg.

Thanks for that.

But bugger, I've already booked the flights. Shame.

Still though not as fun, it's fairly cheap on the bus. £15 thats a bargain in my book.

Hi,

Please can anyone confirm if GoRail have started the rail service between St Petersburg and Tallinn yet? I'm travelling between the two cities on 22 May and would rather go by train than coach.

Many thanks, David.

This train ( 650/649 ) will be cancelled May 26 by RZD. Official reason of cancellation is unprofitability.

And the newer news are that train is not to be cancelled. New conversations from the Estonian and Russian side keeps the train from Tallinn to St.Petersburg riding till the last Sunday of October.
As an additional information, the information by Russian Railroads of closing Tallinn - St.Petersburg was a part of the blokade of Estonian goods to Russia. Now, the Russian oil magnates and other railway users start their trailways through Estonia again, because Latvain taxes are too high.

Does anyone know what the latest is about the train from Tallinn to St Petersburg? Today, Waytorussia seemed to say that there was just one per day, at 11am. And as my plane lands at 11.25, that's not much good to me. I suppose I might have to stay one night in Tallin, to catch the train the next day. But cany anyone give me any advice? Both about trains (and perhaps buses) and about cheap hotels? Many thanks.

Hi - anyone booked a ticket for eurolines buses from Tallinn to St Petersburg recently? The old website is v. slow and doesn't show any available dates and the new website says that it does not have a security certificate and therefore is not safe to use bank details? Hoping to get a bus in early Sept- any ideas? Smile Thanks

I have used Eurolines buses many times - the best way is actually to come and buy a ticket... What time are you coming to Tallinn and what time are you planning to leave for St.Petersburg?
There are about 6 buses daily - with the cheapest and least convenient leaving about 23.00; there is also a night train where you can sleep - it is actually crawlin (9,5 hours) - but all the formalities are in your carriage.
