I am working in Japan and want to visit Vladivostok in 2003. I talked with some sailors yesterday who go to vladivostok from Fushiki Port near Toyama.
I am wondering if you can suggest a top 5 kind of list for ideas of things to do around there. I have about 10 days in Russia, so I can take trains no probs. I cant seem to find a lot of info about this...any ideas??

I'm leaving in Moscow but I want to go to Vladivostok much and every time I meet people from there I ask them what to do.
So, as far as I remember, there is a nice sand beach not far from the city - quite a popular place. And many people I met adviced to go to Khabarovsk - the city not far from Vladivostok. They say the river Amur is very nice there and the city is more friendly. Finaly, this summer we met geologists from Khabarovsk and they treat us with "Avleevskaya" - their local vodka made on herbs - very tasty.

Stay cool

Chadwick,
Try Yul Brynners birthplace. There is also a hill (Can't remember the name) that overlooks Golden Horn Bay. You can check out what's left of the Pacific Fleet. I have walked over most of Vladivostok (not, mind you, at night as it's a pretty rough looking place) .lI agree with Dan. Kharbarovsk may be worth a look, it's about 800-1000 klm's away. If you have nine days you might think about catching the Rossiya (Trans-Sib) train to maybe Ulan Ude.
There are a few english web-sites on Vladivostok. Surf 'n' see
