Best time in Calgary is during the Stampede Exhibtion. It is Canadian version of Mardi Gras. I have spare bedrooms, so accomodations is not a problem. Mountains are only 30 mnutes away. The funny thing about Banff is that most people living there are not Canadian. Serious!!!

WayToRussia --

I will most definitely be around in the Spring. I will show you around if you promise to show me around your town in Russia next time I travel there. When I was there last winter I was very disappointed that I didn't get to meet very many Russian people. I travelled there by myself so I was a bit scared to just meet people by myself. Where in Russia do you live?

Canada and the USA are separate countries so you will need separate visas, one from each country. The good news is that both countries make it fairly easy for PERFORMING ARTISTS to get a visa to do a performance tour.

In Canada, I think that your style of theatre will find the best audiences in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. It takes 5 to 6 hours to drive from Montreal to Toronto. Then it takes another 5 days, driving all day long, to reach Vancouver.

There are not many trains in Canada, however, there is a good overnight rail service between Montreal and Toronto. And the cross-country service from Toronto to Vancouver via Edmonton is also reasonable. However, the best way to see the mountains is by car so you can stop where you want to along the way. If you take a train to Edmonton and the bus to Calgary, and if you have friends who will drive you to Vancouver, that is the best way. Drive west on highway 1 to Sicamous, then south on 97 to Osoyoos and then west again on highway 3. This will take you through Canada's only semi-desert region. Stop at the side of the highway anywhere south of Penticton and look through the bunches of grass growing on the sunny hillsides. There are clusters of prickly pear cactus plants that only grow about 10 centimeters high.

Have fun!

You mean, he doesn't know Toronto is the center of the universe?!? Shocked LOL

Actually, I am not *from* Toronto but near it. It's about an hour and a half drive from T.O. Smile But, that's all I'm saying for I don't want to be tracked down by those who don't like my views and posts! Pray

Here's some links for Russian travellers to Canada. You might find the following useful, Dmitri:

Best and Cheapest way is the Greyhound. YOu can travel from one coast to other coast for 140 CDN. But I am hoping if he decides to come, that you will bring you dance group. THere are large Russian communities in Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto. Cheapest way to and fro Moscow is Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver via Seattle. For a visitor, I travel through the Rockies instead of direct route through Calgary and Edmonton. Banff to Golden.
We have enough Yanks on this forum that will help you travel from coast to coast there. Dmitri, we promise that you will have a time to remember if we did n't get you so drunk that you actual could remember.

The ride from Ontario through the Prairies will probably be really boring, though. At least, that's what I heard. I've gone through American highways but at least, there's some scenery. Not so with the Canadian highways. An East Coast to West Coast journey might cause Dmitri to start hallucinating so be warned. haha

Oh, if you decide to visit Toronto, bring plenty of Russian women with you!... Very Happy J/K!

Just bring Alice Wink

Banff is really cool in terms of nature so it is definately worth seeing...unless you just want to see the urban areas. I went there in the summer...so I don't know if it looks as nice in the spring. I ran into a bear when i went there lol....well it was 100 meters away but it just glanced at us and went on its way looking bored Smile
