Paul...thank you for these stats as they completey support my arguement against what the topic of this thread has now become...remember mine and your response was in regards to this statement: | Quote: | | I refuse to be one of the 97% of American's without a passport, or even one of the remaining 3% that may have one, but have no desire to put it to good use | .
I'm not argueing the 20% statistic...and prior to 9-11 Americans could travel with out a passport. In many cases a birth certificate would suffice as did the DoD ID cards. Plus going to Mexico did not require a passport. I traveled to many countries with out one. Of course now things have changed. My arguement was against the statement that 97% of Americans don't have passports and or do not travel. Your post is not the subject that I am referring to and when I did respond to you it was only to state that we can't just go by the stats you cited. I was hoping to get statistics on how many Americans do travel...meaning how many people who live in the US travel...regardless of passport...no matter where it is issued. For instance my Ex Wife is a Japanese National who travels on a Japanese passport...but yet she is a US permanent Resident. So she would not factor into the stats you cited. So how do we classify her. What about all the other recent immigrants? Anyways my question that I would like to get answered is how many Americans travel as compared to other countries' citizens? |

Happy news and yale global is not what I would call solid evidence. Statistics are almost never correct, its only an assumption made on limited information. 20% is just too low! |

How about Kentucky? Many Americans would consider Kentucky to be a very "foreign" country.
Anyway, while I admire your attempt to use logic with Gomer Surfguy, it is quite futile. |

Everyone at my work has traveled too...and I work with like 15 people. And my old work...everyone traved too. My whole family has been abroad...in fact my cousin is planning his 40th (guys only) B-DAY trip to Peru: Machupicuu. YEs the stats cited isn't correct

Liar Goddess, neither are you. Yale publication or your thinking. I will trust Yale. You find something to dispute my evidence then we will talk.
Surfdude, Face it, the American does NOT travel outside of his/her/its country. They are in general not well travelled people. Many of them have not travelled too far out of their own state or even outside Hazard County. |

Yeah you go ahead and trust George W's alma mater! What evidence? Yale proved nothing. They can not guarantee that info Paul!! You need to face the fact that you are anti american, therefore anything you say against Americans becomes suspect. Dont you suffer from multiple personality disorder, or was that your other user name? |

What ever Paul...I am very well traveled and so are my family and friends...I've been to dozens of countries and my own father has been to over 150. Now you are getting hostile and Fire G is right. Not well traveled? Give me a break! Compared to who? That's right we are very well traveled. Why are you seeking to argue this when I already I stated my dispute is with the 3% stat? And yes you do hate Americans...or so it seems |

Let's face it, the USA is almost a continent - think Europe. And, there are far many more things to see and do in the USA than for example in Liechtenstein.
However, of course "average" Europeans travel to more countries than Americans (and Australians, Canadians for that matter). Even an almost broke European can travel to 20+ countries on their bicycle using 10 kg of rice as fuel. What's so special about Swiss travelling to 20+ different European countries which are close enough to throw a stone into?
I'd argue this "generalisation" though: Relatively, more Americans, Canadians, Australians, and New Zealanders "generally" travel "further" than their affluent European counterparts. They have to because of their isolation. |
