Hi,

I am an American student and I will be leaving in a few weeks to teach English in Biysk.

When my group leaves Biysk, we want to somehow get to Novosibirsk, and then take the Trans-Siberian Railway back to Moscow.

Should I buy train tickets before going to Russia, or should I buy them at the train station when we get to Novosibirsk?

If I should buy tickets prior to leaving the US, where should I get them?

Thank you so much for helping me, this is my first trip to Russia.

Get your tickets in Novosibirsk.

Buying them in the US will incur additional costs on top of already inflated prices, and, in any case you can only get them 45 days prior to travel.

If you are worried about language problems, ask one of your students to write it for you. But really it's not all that difficult.
