Can't really blame them, can you? If you are persecuted for decades, you'd tend to not want to trust others wouldn't you?

Nobody decided to pick on jews out of the blue for no reason, on every single occasion. Sometimes they were involved in stupid situations that they had no business being involved in that ended up dropping the roof on everyone because of the actions of a few. Again nobody has ever liked groups who cloister themselves off, because if gives people the impression that youve got a superiority complex. Christians were also persecuted, because they were outspoken in pagan areas of the world, think back on how much the Romans disliked anyone who wasnt into polytheism. They wanted to force their many Gods and celebrations down everyones throat, and the Jews werent exempt from pissing off the pagans. If you didnt want to come to the party you were labeled an outsider, and outsiders were always considered suspicious, and the first ones people would point the finger at if something went wrong.

Oh, I know. Persecution is not peculiar to any particular group. I'm Irish, and we know how the Irish were treated when they first came to America.

Also if you look at it from a religious stand point, bad things only happened to the jews when they turned their back on God, and were involved in pagan practices themselves.

oh, absolutely... i think it's very important for most humans to identify with a community and cherish values of tradition. i just think that jews are singled out more by outsiders than by choice. there are two different types of jewish separatism that i can think of right now...

1. the orthodox. they separate themselves from everyone, including secular jews, even other orthdox sects in some instances. they look down upon everyone who is not as dedicated to the torah as they are. but, it is also against their practice to take physical measures... they just do their own thing, live in their own bubble and don't really get in the way of anything. the worst they can do is throw dirty diapers at you if you walk through their community with parts of your body exposed. they are, however, very mysterious and interesting to observe.

2. zionists, who tend to be aggressive sometimes, but mostly verbally, not physically. i don't identify with them as much, primarily because of their closed-mindedness. i think that these are the people that you are talking about. and like you said yourself, it's understandable, although not excusable. this is an overwhelming and insignificant minority within the world jewish population.

majority of jews in the diaspora, as well as in israel are non-separatist. they leave peacefully with their neighbors, they run large organizations, they lead media companies and participate in scientific research. they are programmers, accountants, garbage men, limo drivers, chefs, you name it. many of them are noble prize laureates. they attend synagogues once in a blue moon and celebrate their holidays. i suppose this turned out to be a response to fire's post more so than yours...

There is a movie called "The Wind that rocks the Barley", or something like that, it shows how British soldiers slaughtered innocent Irish families in a war to keep Ireland part of the Empire.

Oh, and Kolobed, or Kolobok, or whatever your name is, you are not a Jew. I've known Jews, in Odessa, Tel-Aviv, Toronto, New-York. They were kind, tolerant individuals with a great sense of humour. You are a Zionist, which is a Jew-suppremacist. One who thinks Jews are better then everyone else. A Jewish Nazi, basicly, no matter how much of an oxymoron that sounds like.

In a way that says "we are not on the same team". For instance I dont believe its right to hold American citizenship, and then have an allegiance to Israel, to me thats a traitor, because your allegiance belongs to the country you were born in which gave you your opportunities, and unless you renounce your citizenship, you have no business pledging allegiance to a foreign nation. Also by making the statement you did about having a country where jews can escape another holocaust situation, shows that you are among the group of jews who distrusts gentiles, and believes we are all just waiting to persecute a jew. Then I have to wonder how every jew in the world is supposed to be able to move to Israel when its obvious there will be no room.

so then you don't believe in dual citizenships? what about all these indians coming to the US, making a great living, saving up and then moving back to india to live like kings?

and it's not about trust... it's about the possibility of the holocaust happening again. who says that it won't? it happened only 60 years ago. whatever happened to learning from history? and besides, you said it yourself in a previous post how easy it would be to lead the people to another holocaust....

I think duel citizenship is ok, as long as you arent planning to use your other passport to escape punishment. I however do not believe government employees, or anyone in public office should be holding duel citizenship. Yes its easy to guide people based on fear of the unknown, which is exactly what this war on Terrorism is all about. If people learned from history, they would get it into their brains to stop making the same mistakes, everyone shares in the blame. You shouldnt give people a platform to accuse you, and they should not be accusing based on blind fear.

True... There is an anti-Chechen sentiment like this in Russia too. Except that that one has a strong base: most Chechens that live in Moscow and other cities, sell drugs, commit crimes, etc. Now, I am sure that there are SOME good Chechen people out there, but I have yet to meet them...

Did you hear in Stavropolie region, there was a fight, young Russian Kossacks vs Chechens, one Chechen died. Know how it began? A Russian and a Chech were fighting one on one with thier friends watching. The Russian was winning. Then another chech hit him from the back with a wooden pole or something. After that it was on... No rules, everything goes, about 50 on 50, plus another 100 people standing by watching, and filming on cell-phone cameras. lol
