Billy Talent sucks! Oh boy, Vic and Uday, you listed some horrible bands. Except for the Peppers, The Smiths, Bowie and Death Cab For Cutie, the rest pretty much bite the big one.
Fauste, you name some good bands and have decent musical taste, inmho. You should check out some (or all) of the bands I listed. You might have to rearrange the names of your favourites.
brandalpayne11, you're not missing anything. Billy Talent is an awful band and the vocals are absolutely horrible and can only be beat by other bands along the likes of Nickelback, Linkin Park and other abysmal bands for teenagers who need a good dosage of Ozzy and hard punk rock.
As for Nirvana, you're probably thinking of their cover of Shocking Blue's Love Buzz. Did you buy the boxed set? I want to get it but I have mixed feelings about it: there is something bothering me in that the label Geffen is profiting off Cobain's death, still. Oh well. I'd like to hear the early stuff and watch the DVDs. The original VHS video LTSO was very good, eh? |

YOu probably like Queens of stone age or Kyuss. Fugazi stinks, because I like Minor Threat.
But back to Russia, I remember that when I was Kid that I see all the seciond rate heavy metals visiting Russia. When I went over there, I was in shock that really metal and punk does not really exist as in North America. There were really no skate boarders and kids were generally well dressed and not sloppy like North Americans. It was really vanilla. The only band I saw on TV that rebellious was Leningrad. I found that in comparison NA kids, the youth in all were more conformist versus the rebellious nature of the youth in NA. There was a more a conformist way to look than NA. |

Well let's see....I would check out the bands you listed....but you just totally shotdown my taste in music...so i guess I'm not worthy for your "I'm so cool I listen to non-mainstream" ass.
At the Drive In doesn't even exist anymore....I've heard a few Sonic Youth Songs..they're ok. And I agree Nickleback sux hardcore.
I can understand if you don't like Linkin Park...and Billy Talent does sound annoying sometimes but what's wrong with Sublime, OLP(their old stuff), and Brand New?
Also Weezer is one of my favs. |

Check 'em out, anyway! Sorry, I'm just particularly opinionated when it comes to music. There's so much crap out there and it's often the ones that are bringing in the corporate dollars. I wonder how so many people get enticed by that crap. I know ATDI is now defunct but one of their offshoots is good and the original band still rocks. Weezer's okay.
OLP was okay back in the day. But, I wasn't exposed to so many good bands back then. With the internet (music and instrument forums) and the advent of downloading music, I now can kiss some of those bands goodbye. |

You may not like Billy Talent, but to say they suck is nonce. They sound nothing like Linkin Park or Nickelback (neither whom I like), I suggest brandal give them a listen ('try honesty' is a good song to sample) and give us his opinion.

They did a few covers, jesus doesn't love me..., son of a gun, molly's lips - although I'm not 100% sure they were all from Bleach.
I'm not going to buy the boxed set; I mean Nirvana hasn't been a band for a looong time now, can I expect anything really new in it? It's a cheap marketing ploy all companies always do right before christmas, for christ sake even creed has a greatest hits album out! |

Well, they play it off like it's new and innovating with the combination. They add nothing new, simply use LP 2 chord riffs with Jay Z's old songs, and it sounds silly.
If you want real rock-rap innovation, check out Public Enemy & Anthrax version of Bring the Noise. Or Onyx & Biohazard doing Slam.
LP is so repetitive, chester has a great voice, but everyone else in the band is shite. Every song follows the exact same forumula, it's so mind numbingly repetitive it's a wonder how they've lasted this long. What ever happened to the guitar solo? All these bands are lame limp bizkit wannabes, 3 chord sing/scream songs. |

Uday i'm starting to lose confidence in your intellictuall ability. "Limp Biscuit?"
cmon now!
Linkin park blow them out of the water, the dj alone has more talent in his pinkey than limp peter has in their entire band.
I don't think its "new" or "innovative" but I am very impressed with what songs they chose to mix with. |

Must protect my integrity:
Hey now, don't put words in my mouth. I hate limp bizkit, they are absolutely wretched. I'm just saying bands like LP and Korn etc are all limp bizkit knockoffs... Of course, they are all better than limp, but a copy nonethe less. |

OH NO YOU DID NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!
KORN'S FIRST ALBUM CAME OUT IN, I BELIEVE, IN 1995. They are absolutely awesome, they are truly the only hardcore band America has produced in a couple of decades...............well their first 2 albums anyway.
But anyway back to your accusation Korn created trheir sound, until bands started copying them, they sounded like no one else.
KORN IS AWESOME............YEAH............., but I have to admit they arent as hardcore as ..mmmmm.....lets say.........Ricky Williams |

Okay, maybe I got it mixed up, Korn came out before limp, and are leagues better, but it doesn't say much. Anyone can drop tune their guitars and play single-string distored songs and scream, which is basically what korn et el do. The worst cover songs in the history of rock can be attributed to korn. I like their one song 'got the life' but the rest is pure pox.
Jonathan Davis is another phony scream-and-pretend-to-be angry corny nu-metal wanker who helped kill real metal (ie megadeth/metallica) and provide a venue for the talentless to the mainstream. You want real anger, listen to Come Undone by robbie williams. You can't teach that kind of aggression. |
