Hi

I wish to get information on the current situation on racial attacks and crime in Russia
- Moscow in particular. I have been offered a job in Moscow and currently considering the
position.

I am a person of asian appearance but grew up in a western country. Reading information
through the internet, it seems these types of crimes are alive and kicking in Russia.

I have experienced the same situation before during my teenage years and dont want to
have the same experiences again. More importantly, I am concerned for my families safety.
My wife is white so my daugther has mixed race features.

If you can kindly provide information for those people who are currently living in Russia/Moscow
it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello there,

I am Indian and have been living here for a year now. While it is true that Russia is not a tourist friedly country and that reports of hostility against non-whites can be heard now and then from friends who are Thai, Burmese etc, I have personally not faced any hostility yet on the metro or on the streets.

It is obligatory to carry one's passport here at all times and you can be expected to be stopped by the cops when driving or walking the streets. It is unpleasant to have this thing hang over your head. Especially if you are used to freedom.

So far, I haven't been stopped on the streets and walking home from the metro at night has been without incident.

Good Luck!

I would say one thing:

It's better to be safe than sorry.

See for yourself, dmaglaque. Is it worth it?
