Hello everybody,

I am writing this because I need to gather all the info I can in order to get my residency permit...basically I'm unsure of the necessary steps. I married to a Russian girl the past 26th of July so as far as I know this only helps me in that I'm not considered inside the "quotas". How long does the process takes?? Can it be accomplished in a short frame of time? My business visa will expire on January the 5th. Can I extend my visa?? Which are my options?? I don't wanna consider being an illegal an option though...

By the way, I'm a chilean citizen and we live in Moscow.

Thanks

Peruse this:
http://www.redtape.ru/forum/showthread.php?t=6397

Permanent reisdency in Russia is achieved through stages. First there is the Temporary Residence Permit. After that comes permanent residency. It takes literally years, and the Russians change the requirements often.

Hope the copy and paste helps you though.

Go to your local OVIR and began the process. Because you are not under the quota system, you apply through the OVIR where you are registered. The process will probably take a long time - getting all the documents together, then waiting while your application is processed by many different Russian authorities. But I am sure that once your application is submitted, your local OVIR will be sympathetic and extend your current residency until you get your first foot on the ladder, which is called vremennoe prozhivanie.

Your local OVIR will give you an application form and a list of all the documents you need to submit.
