One question though. Why don't you, guys make a moderator someone who is involved in this forum every day? Some one like Surfguy ?? Why making moderators people who are not here and who are not even interested in being here? What's the point of even having those moderators of yours if they are not doing their job? They don't have time? Get somebody else. I guess it's easy for me to say.  |

Err... I was away for few days, visiting my friends before going abroad for 10 months, and as I am here now it seems that ..err... well, at least discussion going on...
But what comes to banning people... In general, in my experience, it is nicer to come to forum where people can discuss without getting insulted all the time. There's a difference between saying your opinion and name calling, and everyone should be clever enough to understand that difference. What comes to Fire G, I think that some of her posts were nothing but sexual harassment, to me reading her posts was an insult.
And mods, as said, everyone here knows the difference between disagreeing and name calling. Moderators should not need to work as babysitters.
And for the last, this is an open forum and should be open to everyone, not just for the few who are accepted, because they are friends of "the important cream of the crop". |

I'm here quite often and certainly consider myself a regular. I read everything, but I'm just not very active at posting. But I try to make my posts helpful and always stear clear from name-calling or hurting others. I don't relish that crap. I agree the threads really do go off-topic very easily. I'm very lenient and tolerate the banter and conversations here, but arguments are the inevitable. However, I promise to put some more effort into at least splitting off-topics into other threads and at least keep them contained in the TL if the discussions wind up non-Russia related. It's just an idea, but I'll think of some more regarding this issue, because as mentioned earlier - I'm not here as a babysitter over other members.
Over the past year as a mod, I have chased around and moved an unbelievable amount of spam. Pain in the backside, I tell you. Only once in a while I delete double posts (that are usually done by accident) and move topics not related to the particular folder they shouldn't have been started in. This is about the most a mod can do. They cannot control the behavior of others. There is always going to be chit-chatters and trolls. Again, the inevitable in the forum jungle. And If anyone starts to have a problem with another member, then they are welcome to PM me anytime and I'll see how I can help. Peace, all. |

I have been watching this forum for a time now and felt like adding something here. I have enjoyed reading the escapades of some users. No doubt about it some are questionable, though I feel happy when I read them. A moderator can only do so much, and if they must go around and delete the posts of certain individuals, it makes for escalated hostility, because nobody really wants their comments to be deleted. I only hope that this place does not become a stuffy graveyard due to the new restrictions put upon users. I am very much wishing to continue reading the funny comments. Maybe its a wrong reason for me to come, but its a true one.

It's good to see new people posting and posting interesting and relevant stuff at that.
Personally I'd be sad to see such people as Daria, Russki and Spice never contribute anything again, but if that's how it is then, that's how it is. There is always a new clutch of chickens biting at your ankles.

It depends on which folder is selected, because the 'New Strict Rules on the Forum' announcement was posted in both the Feedback and Talk Lounge folders. Enabling members to choose both. |

It would be nice if the threads stay on topic. I read thread an awful lot more than I post, but I generally stop reading if it appears that the thread has veered off topic after a few posts. There might be a great nugget buried in the thread somewhere, but if I'm reading a thread about a visa or travel, and it goes off topic, I stop reading. If I see posts from a handful of users, I also generally stop reading as well. Probably not fair of me, but I don't come here to read about squabbles, friendships between posters, etc.
The good news is that most of the off topic stuff does seem to be limited to Talk Lounge. I can choose to not read Talk Lounge, but the problem (imho) is that a new user may not know that a lot of off topic stuff happens in Talk Lounge - he or she may just read that stuff and get turned off and go elsewhere.
I did some quick math and discovered that the posts in TL account for 34% of the posts on the entire WTR board. That seems a tad bit excessive to me. While not affiliated with WTR, I run a similar board here in the US and can easily imagine that TL isn't helping to pay the bills here at WTR. WTR, btw, is a superb resource and has helped thousands of people travel to Russia. I'm quite certain I would have never made my first trip if I hadn't had my hand held here by helpful users and by the wonderful resource guides.
My two cents is that we need to offer thanks to Dmitry and the staff for creating such a great resource instead of giving our two cents about what we think they should do for us. Moderating is a thankless job, that's for sure.

| I think the long and short of it is that it's Dmitri's site, so he can do whatever he wants, and if you can't abide by his rules, then take a hike, and find somewhere else to be. Like Nikir said, if this place is "home" to you, it's a sad statement on your life, and you should seek some therapy. IMHO |

I too have a website that generates a lot of traffic and I have been debating whether or not to incluse a forum or not...innitially I was advised not to as because of all the monitoring that is required. But even so I have plenty of close friends who frequent the site and would be willing to do so. So this said the discussion here on percentages of post and where they are located is good for any website to know. Personally I think that having 34% being in talk lounge is no where near excessive...as the name implies it is a talk lounge. The informative posts should be in thier perspective threads...or if a new question(s) arise then they should be in thier corresponding thread too. Certainly talk lounge has a lot of useful information...but then one should have to search for it...no way around that. The thing is that as a user so often we are too lazy to search...and so ask a repeat question...and we are too lazy to even do that in the proper thread so we post the question in some off topic thread. Also just be cause you or I like something or prefer something to be a certain way...doesn't mean that the next person does too...
Actually I just thought of how the talk lounge or even if the non-relevant threads should be listed on WTR. On WTR there is a list of most recent forum posts...and the blog entries...I think we should list the talk lounge posts seperately from the forum posts. And a non relevant thread should or can be listed in talk lounge. To often we go onto the most recent posts because they are listed first...and then also we go onto talk lounge be cause it is listed to on the main home page...but if these were listed seperatel and the choice of threads was more clear as to which threads are which...us users could then better chose. And especially if the definition of the Talk loung and the other posts are also stated |
