Am thinking of going to Russia next spring but have heard nothing but horror stories about foreign students and residents being attacked by skinheads, not to mention the subtle racism that persists in restaurants, etc. that white tourists would never even know about.
I wanted to hear from other people who've experienced this to see how bad it truly is. I'm Asian and from America and have heard that if you have an American accent people will leave you alone, but am still a little nervous about going nonetheless.
Any input would be greatly appreciated! |

| One thing I forgot to add, we're planning on going to Moscow and St. Petersburg. |

It isn't so. BTW, I don't think that many Russian people can distinguish an American accent. Even if they can they won't leave you only because of this. |

Sometimes horror stories are just what they are: stories.
I know at least one asian girl on this site that has lived in Russia for several years already without being involved in any such incident. |

I think I know the same girl. Bad things can happen anywhere...moscow or St Pete...NYC...Paris. Like everywhere...one just needs to be aware of thier surroundings and take precautions. Go to St Pete and enjoy. Be street smart and alert. |

My mom's Asian and went to St. Petersburg with a bunch of her friends. Nothing happened to them.
Except that they couldn't resist the poor children. |

| I will be going to Russia soon to do an investigation on this very subject. I shall report back with my findings... which should either confirm or dispel all these "stories". |
