what is your understanding of cultural history...are you referring to Punk Rock music as some main cultural impact and definition for anysociety? Actually if you want to study a music that is very cultural...Gypsy Music is far more defining!

I wasn't alking about main cultural impact, just said that sometimes artist dies at young age. I don't know what is age range of people reading this forum, but for sure I know that not everyone accepts Rimbaud and Janis Joplin mentioned in the same sentence.

No you are right so many artists do in fact die at a young age...most are a result of substance abuse that leads to self destruction and suicide. Janis Joplin...prime example...Kurt Cobain...Jim Morrison...even Elvis Presley. Going back to earlier times...Edgar Allen Poe...Opium addict, these people live hard lives in terms of what they do to thier bodies. Now I think too that there is a fashionable sense to being famous and it's just expected to be self destructive...Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears. I hope that all the new artists coming out of Russia do not fall into this trend. Was that young singer in the russian Pop Group "Banda" how did he die? Anyone know?

Kurt Cobain was the greatest. It's a shame that he died at such a young age.

Just came back from Piter... Found out 5'nizza isn't doing music anymore, instead Sergei Babkin has started his own solo albums, very different from music of 5'nizza, but still fantastic Smile

Oh, my favourite subject (and my first post) Very Happy
Godod old groups are like someone said DDT (missed their Spring concert in Ufa this year), Nautilus Pompilus (now dissolved) - but look for Slava Butusov (the bandleader) or Yu-Piter or Deduschka (all Butusov).
Akvarium/Boris Grebenchikov belongs also to the grand ole ...

Looking for "punk" - try Tequilajazz (yezzz thre zeds), or Splin or Nol (ноль) or Negu Svelo.
Country style of music - ChaiF and Tschizh&Co.

Good singeresses: Irina Allegrova (her first albums), Tanya Bulanova and Nastya Polyeva. Also look for an album with Lyobasha&Alla Pugacheva. I normally don't like Pugacheva, but this is a GREAT album.

I also listen to Agata Kristi, BrigadaS/Heprikasaemie/Garik Sukachev.

Want some anti-socialistic music, listen to Igor Talkov who, accordning to some myths, was killed by KGB for sing out loud in the late 80's about his dislike/hate for the socialism.

And finally - if you want something really nice and beautiful to listen to, a new group from Kursk, playing so called art rock - Malenkie Tragedii (Little Tragedies). They have made an effort to make their musik available in the West. Highly recommended is their Chinese Songs and New Faust.
