Hello,

I searched a lot on this forum but couldn't find the exact information I need.

Today I received from a Russian university an invitation letter to apply for a student visa which I don't need anymore. Since I got a job, the company already started the process to get my invitation letter for a business visa which should be ready next week.

Can I have any problems in getting my second invitation?

thanks

So much time has passed that it probably doesn't matter anymore, but you can have two open invitations at the same time. By sheer luck I once had two invitations, I first used an invitation that was good for about a month (it was a tourist visa) and when the visa was over, I used the second invitation (for a "personal" visit - a friend did the invitation) for the next visa, which lasted three months. So I managed to stay in Russia legally for a four month stretch based off of receiving two invitations at the same time, which saved a lot of extra time and expense (in the sense that I didn't have to scramble to find a way to stay when my first visa expired).

What exactly is an open invitation?

Something new?

All the invitations I have had have been very specific.

Like your post above though, the information contained in them had little or no resemblance to the actual truth.

Open not in the sense of no end date, but open in the sense of not yet turned into a visa.

No end date invitations would be super sweet....I'd get every person I know in Russia to send me an invitation, and just have a stack of them for the rest of my life, using them when the mood strikes.
