I believe it was this one:
The Romanov Dynasty Tricolor. The Romanovs were the longest ruling Dynasty in Russia, and so, their Flag was probably used as the Russian Flag. |

Others think it's the original Slavic Tricolor:
Now, it could be that this was the widely used version of the flag, but I believe that the Romanov Colours were the official version. |

No, sorry Russki I can't tell you, anyone of them that lived in Russia is long dead. I will ask my dad and a couple of uncles but doubt that I'll get the same answer from any of them.
I had a look here and it goes part way to answering your question.

I saw a program on television and it said it was the tri colors white, red, blue. And actually throughout history these colors are very specific with identifying a certain group of peoples. There is a reason as to why the Union Jack, our Star Spangled Banner, the French Falg, and the Russian flag are all containing the same colors...very significant reason. |

| Quote: | Russia's flag (sometimes called the "Imperial flag") was adopted on August 21, 1991. It consists of three equal horizontal bands of white (on the top), blue and red (on the bottom). The height is two-thirds the width.
The design of the flag is over 300 years old and was first used by Peter the Great (it was adapted from the flag of the Netherlands). It was the official flag of Russia from May 7, 1883, until November 1917, when the communist Bolshevik revolution took place. When the communist regime fell, the old tri-color flag was reinstated. |

From this reference, it looks like both flags were used.

The red/white/blue being meant for official occasions and the black/gold/white for everything else. It seems that the black/gold/white was so unpopular that the red/white/blue became the de-facto flag. |
