My uncle, Mitya (Dmitry), came to visit me from Irkutsk recently, and he brought a few of the local newspapers with him as souveneers for me, and in one of them, dated from Monday, August the fifth of this year, I read this story:

Quote:
The Siege
When Rustam Uvarov, the President of Moscow-based construction and restoration firm “Zodchiy”, thought about making Downtown Irkutsk his #1 project, he certainly did not expect it to turn out as bad as it did.
When a playground was fenced off as a part of the construction are, the local people, unhappy their children had no-where to play now, pulled the fence down with their cars, and vandalized the excavator on site, smashing all of it’s windows, and pouring sand into the gas tank. The machine was brand new.
Soon after, a new fence was erected, and five security guards, armed with batons and pepper spray, patrolled the perimeter.
One day, while on duty at the gate of the construction site, one of the guards, 32-year old Georgi Szvakhidze, an immigrant from Georgia, got into an argument with a local woman, who demanded to be let on the site, and to see the man in charge of the construction to complain about excessive noise that, apparently, made her stay up all night. The guard said later he may have pushed the woman a little too hard, so hard, in fact, that she fell and twisted her ankle. Later that same night the woman’s husband, 41-year old Valeriy Chebrikov, along with six other men, came up to the same gate. When the guard, Szvakhidze, and another guard, Nikolai Zelin, 23, came out, and asked them what they wanted, the men took out steel armature rods and attacked the guards. While Zelin ran into the guard’s booth to call for back up, Szvakhidze, as he later recalled, was pushed to the ground, beaten and kicked. He remembers the husband of the woman he pushed before, and some of the other men, calling him “Georgian swine”, “Kavkazian scum”, and telling him to “Go back to your filthy aul, up the mountains!” (An “aul” is a Georgian/Armenian/Azerbaijani village in the Caucasus Mountains.)
The men then quickly dispersed before other guards could get there.
Chebrikov, however, says his wife came home from her altercation with Szvakhidze with several big bruises on her arms, and a black eye, which she showed to journalists and militsia investigators later on.
Szvakhidze had three broken teeth, one tooth knocked out, a cracked rib, and a broken arm from the assault.
Later that night, in Chebrikov’s building, several apartments had their doors set on fire, including his own.
Then, several youths from the building, aged from 15 to 18, hurled bricks, stones, and glass bottles at workers and security guards, injuring one worker.
The guards managed to catch one youth, 17 year-old Aleksnadr Viazin, but had to let him go, amid threats of a riot by the locals.
The local residents then held a rally near the construction site, attended by over 300 people from the two buildings near the site, with slogans such as “Thieves will not pass!”, “Bastards, go back to Moscow, let our children play in their yard!”, and “Shame on you, capitalist traitors, for stealing homes from Russian people!”.
This dispute is on-going. We will write more about it as the events transpire.

Good, the woman deserved a good beaten...let her try that shit in my neck of the woods, the Bronx and the story would have read..."Woman beaten to death"...she went their for a fight and she got what she deserves. I'm sure she did more than open her mouth, no one just gets a beatin' for nothing...she probably said something about him being a Georgian..Construction sites are always noisy, what did she expect the supervisor to do? Brick wall

Well, people in Russia are pretty frustrated these days with the construction companies, after there has been several cases when the company wanted to build a new building and they had people kicked out, sometimes by force. People ended up homeless! So, I understand people wanting to defend their homes, their children, and themselves. I would have done the same in that situation. And look at the tactics the company used. I mean, setting people's doors on fire?! And the security guy? WTF was he thinking, beating up a defenceless woman?! Acting like fucking cowrard! Kudos to her husband for teaching that prick a lesson! What are you talking about, StephenB:

It's the guard who deserved a "beaten", and he got one, so, good.
Don't tell me you think the company are the good guys in this! Do you? Laughing Rolling Eyes

Someone should have retaliated by destroying the park equipment to teach those imbeciles that they do not own a public park. When something is gated off, its usually for your safety, only an idiot would insist that their child be able to play near a construction zone. Someone needs to get the LAPD down there to run people down with their patrol cars, and beat people with billy clubs until they think twice about vandalizing equipment used to improve their own community.

what was she thinking by yelling at the guy...the problem wasn't going away. It appears that the townspeople were mad thus destroying expensive equipment. Well if they act retarded on both sides then they deserve each other. Like Surf said, white trash is there too.

Well, when you have a power hungry moron who doesn't think very well what might happen when you get a wild hair up your ass to take something "else" away from the locals what did he expect, local praises? Where are the children going to play. When you leave people on the streets then people like Mr. Uvarov needs to get his faced slapped for thinking up such a idiotic solution in restorating and taking away a park or homes from people. Do you think the locals are going to bring you roses while they are standing in the streets freezing their asses off and their kids have no where to go to live or play? Cmon now, you deserve to get your ass kicked by the locals. Those guards had cold uncompassionate attitudes for people who are left without anything and the ironic part is the guards probably have a warm bed and soup waiting for them at home. Those type of men love to watch those suffer and they have orgasims when the sufferers cry for help. I can see why people like this retaliate against them. It does not make it right on both sides to violently fight like this, but do you think that the people are going to sit back and stand for it? Hell no! Sorry, but NO MAN should push a women, that is bad upbringing and their fathers taught them to treat women this way. I don't think she deserved that, she was asking a question and wanted to see the big wig and you cannot push a woman for asking a question. That is like me asking my supervisor to see the boss so I can complain about something and my supervisor pushed me for asking....how dumb is that, no respect for a woman. He needed his balls slapped and his ear twisted by his mother. You can see how some men are brought up without morals towards women. He probably is single, uneducated, impotent and that is why he pushed her. If a man here pushed another mans woman in my state, oh boy his ass would be hanging from the trees and his throat slashed. I don't think that people should retaliate like this but people don't think well when they are angry and losing the simple things that give them a sense of security.

Just my thoughts... Wink

Please what year are you living in...I don't praise violence towards anyone unless you start the situation..I've never hit a woman however, there were many times I wanted too, nevertheless, I'm sure there's more to the story that was left out. Who were kicked out of their homes? Wasn't it the locals who put sand in the gas tanks...so that's okay? The woman went to complain about the noise..well DA, it's a construction site!! People don't want to see progress in their towns? Who said that they were not going to replace the playground for the children? I'm sure they were...You know Jo jo if you look at the story the woman's husband went there with two other guys...knowing that the guy was Georgian and trashed him...one thing is to beat up a guy because he pushed your wife..but bringing someone's ethnic background in a fight is more racist than anything. I really believe that when the woman went to the construction site and found out that the guy was Georgian...she gave it to him three-fold..therefore, the man probably did push the woman...and she probably came back at him thus him hitting her. The story is one sided, one can tell by reading it. No one woman or a man should raise their hands to each other...Women must also remember that if you are going to use physical violence there are men today that will most likely hit you back..times have change...There were times men opened doors for women, tip their hats, treated women with respect. However, there was a time when women treated men with respect too...Jo jo..times are different..maybe you haven't been to many places but it's not a safe world today..

I am not saying don't progress and I don't praise violence Stephen, but when people stop having compassion and pretty much scooch you out of the way and no warning of what is going on, that leaves people angry and defenseless. Those men who destroyed some that property were pissed annnnnd it always turns into a ethnic thing for no reason. That was an easy retaliation to get the other person pissed off. Words! Only words can hurt. Haven't you ever heard of this saying, "Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me"? Well that quote is full of $hit. People just say and do things when they are mad and afraid. People get paranoid when there are changes, so they go after those who they fear.

This world has never really been safe, ever. Excuse me, but men have never changed their attitudes concerning women, yeah they used to open doors, tip their hats, respected the women, but they still had the mentality that they could beat their "wives" but no other man could. How can you respect her then turn around and disrespect her at the same time. Go figure! That has and never will changed. I don't care if this is 2007 men have never changed their attitudes towards women. What they used to do behind closed doors years ago in their home is now on public display for everyone to see in this modern day world. If a woman has lost respect for her man (or men) then maybe people should sit back and look at the overall picture since the beginning of man. This gets into another thread and off topic that we don't want to start, but to avoid that situation then the women need to be more observant and look at the red flags before getting into a relationship with men who have a dinosaur or neanderthal image and mentality.

Just another opinion to add.

Some husbands in Russia consider their wives to be their property. Maybe things aren't going well in the marriage and the wife wants out. She finds a potential husband but the potential husband has to pay money to the current husband before the current husband will agree to divorce his wife. Situations like this probably exist all over the world, not only in Russia.

I respect your opinion, however, I've never came from a family where men hit their wives...also, my close friends did not either...I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, but it appears that you have a very low opinion about men. That's something you need to deal with yourself, but just don't assume that all men are like that...it's like saying all women are bitches.

Well, I don't have a low opinion on men, and certainly not all men are like this. I just think women should be careful of some sterotypes that are still lurking around. I was married once to a very mean man and I know.
