ok read this in the Moscow times and was wondering if russians and others feel the same way:
| Quote: |
"Corruption is ubiquitous in Russia. It is the very texture of Russian life," said Masha Lipman, an expert at the Carnegie Moscow Center. "It would need a deep restructuring of the whole political system and the process of policymaking. What drives corruption is the large-scale involvement of the state."
"Everything here is rotted by corruption. I don't think Zubkov ... is going to position himself as a reckless warrior against corruption," said Stanislav Belkovsky, head of the Council for National Strategy and a former Kremlin adviser. "[His appointment] is just a public relations campaign. It is designed to concentrate people's minds on the problem of corruption and distract them from other issues." |

Masha and the Carnegie group are paid lackies for the West. If I were Putin I'd kick their rusty rears out of Russia. It would be an act of reciprocity, for the U.S. damned sure doesn't allow -- or at least give prominent coverage too -- foreign advocates operating on its soil.
I recall her boss's op-ed piece in the Moscow Times in 2004 in which he talked of how poor Russians were and cited as evidence the observation that the streets were littered with old Ladas and sprinkled with a few luxury cars. I was in Moscow at the time, and was amazed at the number of middle class Toyotas, Nissans, Fords, etc., that had replaced the old Ladas of years earlier.
The Carnegie bunch use the same sort of evidence and analysis that Bush used to invade Iraq.
Now, that being said, of course Russia and its government is corrupt. So is the U.S., as I have observed first-hand in some fairly high circels in the U.S. government. But, here in Russia, the corruption is more open and, ina sense, more transparent and "honest." As Russia matures as a more-or-less open society, the corruption will fade from sight, i.e., they'll learn the techniques of the U.S. |

| Perhaps so...but to each his own. I think Putin will weed out all the corruption...well at least the ones who disagree with him |

What techniques are those? The US government is blatantly corrupt. They make almost no attempt to hide it. The Bush family alone has everything from rapists, to Nazi supporters in it.
Russia is certainly no worse than America.
PS. I hope you're voting next election. otherwise you could have another monkey running your country again. |

Corruption has different levels. You can't compare the corruption of, let's say, the government of Cuba to that of the US.
Corruption is like decay, moral decay, it progresses from bad to worse. The US government is far behind in that of many other countries. |

Government corruption is one of the constants of the universe......This said, I am curious why you say "God forbid an Obama." I can almost understand Clinton and Edwards, but my curiosity gets the better of me on Obama. |

Yeah, I agree. What's wrong with Obama as a president. Is that a racist statement or just more California, smog induced babbling? |
