Dear all,
I am a new St Petersburger (yes, I did find a flat, thanks to all who responded to that post!) and have a few questions for people who have lived here a while...
1) Can anyone tell me where to find vintage/second hand clothes in St Petes? I am used to shopping vintage at home and can find nothing here, I dont mind if its old soviet stuff, I think that would be interesting!
2) Does anyone know of English language second hand bookstores? Or any second hand bookstores (I know of one on the Moika)?
3) Any recommendations for vegetarian restaurants?
Any ideas would be much appreciated!
thanks |

Look out for signs saying Секонд Хенд, usually painted on walls, not in the centre of the city but out a bit.
I lived near the Moskovski metro station in 2004 and there were lots of these around there then. |

There are lots of second hand shops around, just keep your eyes open for the sign that nikir mentioned (and yes, there are second hand shops even in the center). When I moved away from Russia, I sold all my books to a second-hand book shop on Nevskiy Prospekt, maybe Dom 7? Anyway, it was really close to Palace Square, on the south side of Nevskiy. It has a decent selection of second-hand books in all kinds of languages. I even bought a nice English-Finnish-English dictionary there once.
Out of curiousity, what area do you live in, how big is your apartment, and how much do you pay? I've heard that apartment prices have skyrocketed, and I'm curious to see how much. |

1) There are lots of second hand clothes stores in the city, but many of them are in fact "3d hand", i.e. dealers, who sell for high price. Look for ones where clothes are put in big piles, those are cheapest. I visited myself one at Primorskaya subway st and one at Pionerskaya sub st. Ask people there for directions.
2) I know second hand russian lit bookstore at Finliandsky railway station, bought Leskov classics book there for 20 rub.
3) Троицкий мост
