I came across this article which was rather humourous, but also contained bits of interesting info. regarding Russians:

Haha, only one part of the "Russian Oligarch" is true about my husband, and he's not the billionaire part...Smile

I would say a lot of the things in that are definitely true, which made me laugh 'cause at times I thought there were just quirky things about him, but I guess they apply to a lot of Russian men.

When I lived in Moscow, I taught English conversation classes at the school where the children of the Russian oligarchs study when they live in Russia (the name and exact address of the school shall remain undisclosed for security reasons).

TRUST ME, 95% of them (the young people who will inherit their oligarch parents' wealth and status) are the biggest a-holes and b-ches you will ever meet. After all, when daddy has billions of dollars, and you get anything and everything your littlest whim desires, you don't have to be a decent human being or treat others with any sort of respect. And believe me, they weren't so bad to me, you should have seen them with their Russian teachers, and amongst themselves (family rivalries, etc.)! Unless you're totally just in it for the money, I'd recommend staying as far away from an oligarch as possible. You'd never be more than an occassional sex-slave anyway, during the few days of the year that your husband would actually be home.

Anyway, yes it seems that much (but not all) of that article is broad enough to apply to any Russian man, not just an oligarch.

You are right and wrong. I would say that quick wealth makes assholes.
People from old rich families aren't like this, it is a matter of education.

I met in my life (mainly in working circles) some very rich people (not oligarchs, I am talking about people who always had tons of money for centuries) and most of them were everything except rude. I even worked with a "De Courcel" family member (the family of J.Chirac wife who's coming from French Aristocracy) and was very surprised of how "normal" this guy was in spite of his name and fortune.

I will tell you who was a real a--hole and it was a woman.

New Yorker, "Leona Helmsley" was a real nut job. She was called "THE QUEEN OF MEAN". She always belittled her employees and anyone who she thought was beneath her. She was very wealthy.

She died recently. I am not trying to be insensitive, but I am sure alot of people were relieved.

you are right mr wizz and I was going to mention this too. In the US there are 80,000 people who are worth more than $30 million. Having money is a huge responsibility...funny thing is I mentioned to a friend last night that she should go to russia and meet an oligarch...her response was..."what the fuck would I do that for" I had to laugh

I actually saw her once on the street a few years ago. When you have a lot of money and a lot of employees, it's fun to belittle them Smile If they hated her so much, why did they work for her? After all, it's a free country.

Hell if you were single now you'd hit it and quit it...think of how rich you would be when she pays you to go away...you'd be an oligarch!

She was a miserable old fart that hated life. She was a useless old woman that had no class. Just because a person has money doesn't make you a classy respected person. I would shun her and belittle her back to give her a taste of her own medicine. If I ever had met her I wouldn't give her the time of day. When I lived in NY I would hear the terrible stories of her from Mrs. Gucci.
