I have looked on the British citizenship pages but cant find the answer to my question.
Would a child born in Russia to a british father and russian mother have any right to UK citizenship?
I ask because it would be easier for my child to travel around Europe on a British Passport then a Russian one. Anybody had a similar experience or can help on the matter? |

point 1 type google, british citizenship law press enter
point 2 on the very fkn 1st link is wikipedia clik there
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_nationality_law#From_1983
"A child born outside the UK on or after 1 January 1983 will automatically acquire British citizenship by descent if either parent is a British citizen otherwise than by descent at the time of the birth."
enjoy
ps
note the acc to article 12â child will acquire Russian citizenship as well. If it is undesirable you must renounce his Russian citizenship ( art 19.3 ) just in case. |

Yes. The child of a British National is entitled to apply for British Citizenship regardless of where they were born. The Immigration and nationality Directorate ("IND") website will tell you what you need to do.
With Girls, they should definitely have both Russian and British Passports so they will never have to get visas for either Russia or the EU and they aren't called up for Military Service. With Boys it's more complicated. Renouncing Russian Citizenship is quite a step to take in order to avoid military service at age 18 . My Russian stepson deregistered himself from our russian address (his propiska in his russian domestic passport) and registered himself at the Russian Embassy in London as living in the UK. Now since the military only use the russian propiska system to call people up for military service he is okay even though he is of military service age. This is all quite legal. This way he gets to avoid renouncing his russian citizenship and keeps two international passports. All this might change in the future as everything in Russia - who can say? My step son has been back to Russia several times on his russian international passport - actually a legal requirement for russian citizens going to russia - and is perfectly okay.
I took the time to elaborate a little more as I suspect your other half may have strong views about renouncing russian citizenship. But again only boys have this issue and its only to do with military service.
Rgds
