Hi, I have a question about working in Russia. Here is my info:
I am an American citizen living in Barnaul, Russia with my wife who is a Russian citizen.
I am here on 1 yr multi entry business visa until July, 2008
I am a CELTA certified English teacher
I want to teach English classes here on my own, rent a space or teach in company as well as private lessons.
How can I do this legally? work permit, work visa, residence permit?
I understand that the business visa is not appropriate for this.
Would it be easier if my wife formed a business and hired me?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Reid

Russian temporary residency leading to permanent residency. With a Russian wife this should be very do-able.

Get to work on it now. Your clock is ticking.

Thanks for your response. Does that mean that I can work, start a business etc. with temporary residence, and don't need work visa or permit?

Both temporary and permanent residency give you the right to work here.

Starting a business is an entirely different issue. Russian corporation law is a minefield of byzantine requirements not to be undertaken without proper legal guidance.
