Let me tell you something, Surfey, the US might not want Russia to "prevail", but, whether you people like to, or not, Russia is standing tall once again, as it always was before, with pride, and dignity of a Superpower. And it will stand like this for thousands of years.

You know what empowers me, Surfguy, it's looking at this painting that hangs in my house:

"Tri Bogatyrya" ("Three Warriors") by the great Russian artist, Viktor Vasnetsov (yes, yet another great guy that has the same name as me Laughing ). It depicts the three mythical warriors (Bogatyrs) from ancient Rus: Alesha Popovich ("Popovich" mean "The Son of a Priest", and he was indeed! Laughing ) Dobrynia Nikitich, and Ilya Muromets (the strongest one of the three, he is from the town of Murom, which still exists today; he is the guy in the middle, in the painting.). These warriors guard Russia day and night, shield it from all dangers, kill it's enemies. I have this painting in my house, as I believe the Bogatyrs serve the same purpose there, as well, they guard my home against evil. Notice how Dobrynia, who's on the left, is drawing his sword there. It is to show all enemies of Russia, all invaders, "Come, we've got something for ya!". The Bogatyrs of Rus, were really like the Samurai in Japan. Like Knights of Europe.

Cool painting! But this is what I said: So I hope you didn't misunderstand me:

Russia has a lot of great history! That's for sure...and as I've stated numerous times here on WTR...I hope Putin brings back the grandeur of Russia.

I like this one and this was a very significant historical event

Quote:

Quote:
Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks is a historical tableau, set in 1676, exploiting the legend of the reply that the Cossacks sent the Sultan of Ottoman Empire. The Cossacks of the Zaporozhian Host (from 'beyond the rapids', za porohamy), inhabiting the lands around the lower Dnieper River, had defeated Ottoman Turkish forces in battle. However, the Sultan of Ottoman Empire demanded that the Cossacks submit to Turkish rule. The Cossacks, led by Ivan Sirko, replied in an uncharacteristic manner: they wrote a letter, replete with insults and profanities. The painting exhibits the Cossacks' pleasure at striving to come up with ever more base vulgarities. During Repin's time, these lovers of liberty and warfare enjoyed great popular sympathy. Repin also admired them: "All that Gogol wrote about them is true! A holy people! No one in the world held so deeply freedom, equality, and fraternity."

The text of the Sultan's letter to the Cossacks:

As the Sultan; son of Muhammad; brother of the Sun and Moon; grandson and viceroy of God; ruler of the kingdoms of Macedonia, Babylon, Jerusalem, Upper and Lower Egypt; emperor of emperors; sovereign of sovereigns; extraordinary knight, never defeated; steadfast guardian of the tomb of Jesus Christ; trustee chosen by God himself; the hope and comfort of Muslims; confounder and great defender of Christians—I command you, the Zaporozhian Cossacks, to submit to me voluntarily and without any resistance, and to desist from troubling me with your attacks.

—Turkish Sultan Mehmed IV

According to the legend, the reply was a stream of invective and vulgar rhymes, parodying the Sultan's titles:

Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan!

O sultan, turkish devil and damned devil's kith and kin, secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight are you, that can't slay a hedgehog with his naked arse? The devil shits, and your army eats. You will not, you son of a bitch, make subjects of Christian sons; we've no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck your mother.

You Babylonian scullion, Macedonian wheelwright, brewer of Jerusalem, goat-fucker of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater and Lesser Egypt, Armenian pig, Podolian thief, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, an idiot before God, grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow, screw your own mother!

So the Zaporozhians declare, you lowlife. You won't even be herding Christian pigs. Now we'll conclude, for we don't know the date and don't own a calendar; the moon's in the sky, the year in the book, the day's the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our arse!

Koshovyi Otaman Ivan Sirko, with the whole Zaporozhian Host

I would like to see Russia prevail not into a Godless state which I don't think it would be because Putin is a Christian. I would like to see it be economically strong, peaceful country and a place where people can visit and enjoy the Russian scenery, culture and history. Maybe wishful thinking on my part, but anything can happen. Of course the Western countries need to let Russia deal with its own problems and not get involved. If Putin is the man to do it then people should let him proceed in finishing what he already started instead of turning his power over to someone who might not complete the goals that he already laid down.

Also let's not forget Macedonia...Romania...Albania...Bulgaria...none of those would be muslim today had it not been for the Ottoman (Muslim) Turks. And lets not forget what the Ottoman Turks did to the Armenians...oh not that long ago. Armenia was where Christianity started...the first Christian Church was there!

I am sorry, Stephen, but in the Russian mind, "Strong" and "Peaceful" just don't coincide. I remember even in high-school I went to, walking away from a fight was considered weakness, and cowardice.

Russki, I don't think you understand what I meant by the statement of "Strong" and "Peaceful" nation...In political terms not in social terms...Strong as in a sense of strong infrastructure and economy and Peaceful in the sense of not involving oneself with issues that don't concern you..being neutral. It's like two friends fighting..you don't want to take sides...you want to stay out of the fight..something that America once was. Don't mistake "Peaceful" as "Weakness"...we Americans learn that in school when we are young...You learn sometimes the quiet kid is not the one you want to mess with.

You're right Surf...also what the Turks did to the Pontic Greeks during the population exchange; force death marches, threw the dead off the ships instead of letting the people give them a Christian burial etc...You know in Tatarstan that if you build a mosque you have to build an Orthodox Church. However, that's good, but one thing is that many Orthodox Churches were destroyed during Communism in Russia and there were not that many mosques in Tatarstan as it was back then, but now there are just as many mosque as churches. The Tsars made sure that Christianity was the religion of Russia and squashed all other religions to some degree..sure they gave them some rights but not that much. When Communist came..the screwed up the whole shabang...Churches and mosques were destroyed and now there are just as many mosques in some areas than there are churches..They should have left the Tsars to rule because this is what happens when you have monkeys or I should say the poor class rule a country. Surf we had this conversation about the educated classes being wiped out, however, some people still don't see it. They really believe that the country was better off under a communist leader...As we know from history (America) that it is an easy transfer from a Monarchy State to a Democratic State. Of course there was a war, but not genocide and gulags and hunger etc..Not a good trasition from Monarchy to Communism. Russia is paying the price for their sins of the past and rightfully so...As far as the Cossacks are concerned they are and was always for the Tsars and the Orthodox Church. Russki how can you be an Atheisist like you said you were when the Orthodox Church is part of your identity as being a Russian...it's in your history it's in your landscapes it's in your blood. Russki watch this may be you'll learn something about Russian history instead what the crap they fed you as a child in your school:

Don't force God on me, Stephen. I have a right not to believe if I don't want to. I think religion is nonsense anyway. Humans wren't "divinely created" they evolved from a fucking monkey, is that so hard to admit?

The majority of the Russian lands were conquered by the Tsars not the Communist. So you can thank them...Also, it was Ivan the Terrible who beat the Tatars Muslims and took their lands that spread most of Siberia.

No, that's your opinion..I think I would believe that there was no God too if I was taught that since I was a child. I don't blame you, I blame the system.
