Yes . . .

The inevitable has finally happened. As of 15:30 MST locally on 21, November--I am no longer employed at the company I've been with since January, 2000. Simply put...I've been 'let go' due to company downsizing. Yeah, it was destined to happen for some time now.

So, what sounds more understandable about my current job status if communicated in the Russian language? For example, what's the preferred description by native Russian speakers who maybe in a similar predicament?

Незанятый or Безработный? Confused

Профессионально оспариваемый? Laughing

Seriously though, I'm sorry to hear that Will. I hope you get a better job. That'll teach them.

Hey guys . . . Большое спасибо! Every bit of encouragement helps.

SG--I'll be around here locally this T-Day. The last time I traveled nearby Sonoita was too many years ago. But send me a PM if your near the PHX area over this holiday (typically, four days for most peeps).

ээээ нет. 'professionally challenged' it's like 'i can dig, and can dig not', that is definitely not this case. It's more like 'occupationally challenged' or 'alternatively occupied' - альтернативно занятый.

official version if 'безработный'.

If it makes you feel better - see what news says about unempoyeds' cars -

You could also say "без работы" or "не работаю".

Оспариваемый can describe a challenge, but in the context of a dispute or contest. It doesn't fit with the word "professionally" in this case.

Take heart 5_Zvehzda, I know a few people in your situation over the past few years and the experience has rejuvenated them.
