In september I will be visiting SP and Moscow, flying from italy, it is my first trip to russia and I dont have much knowledge of the local tourist dealing, as I wish to make my stay there as homy as possible, I am all hear about informations and advices relative to this matter, For example, I have reserved at russya hotel for 7 nights, the opiniums about the russya are not exactly the best, is it really that bad? Can I connect to internet fom the room telephone? How? I am planning to make excurtions to the towns of the gold ring , leaving moscow in the morning and returning in the evening, is it possible? How?
One last thing, as I am traveling alone, I wont turn back the opportunities to make friends, especially on the female category, I read that it is rather easy, I would like somebody advice on how to distinguish the wrong cases from the eventual encounterings.
I am also willing to open personal contacts through internet, preferably with people actually living in SP and moscow.
Thank you

First Don't Drive
Second Becareful of the "friends" you meet. Ask the price on everything in Advance. They will rip you off in second.
Everything else is cool. Remember Russian women are not sluts and whores, so treat them respect. They demand more attention than any other I have every met. Exchange your cash in Moscow. Despite what this site says. USD has better exchange rate. Cash is king. If you visit a Russian family, learn their traditions.
A famous russian author described Russians as both Generous and deceitful.
Things are not as bad as they say there. Another thing, don't think you will see everything in 7 days or even close. |

Hi there Georgy,
I have just returned from Moscow .I stayed in the Rossiya in Moscow in a re-furbished room. Both the room and hotel food were really good, the room was clean and good furniture. It was cleaned every day with new towels and the bed linin changed every other day. The queues at all the sights I visited were very long ! eg Lenins mausoleum was nearly an hours wait ( I tried to bribe the gaurds to beat the que!!) The Kremlin was just as bad and we had to resort to going with a guide as we could'nt buy a ticket on our own we had to be part of a group with a guide. If you wan't to get out and about use the Metro, it's dead cheap and really fast and easy to use.Everywhere we went we took photo's and we weren't stopped or questioned once. I enen had my photo taken with some Kremlin gaurds on their horses!!!. If you do get stopped just be polite and try to impress them by trying some Russian words. If you have any other questions just mail me at spaceward@hotmail.com
Good luck.
PS DO NOT miss the the market at Izmailovsky Park on Saturdays and Sundays |

To answer some of your questions :
It is a few years since I last stayed at the Rossiya Hotel. If you have an upstairs room looking over the Kremlin, then you have a wonderful view from a very ordinary room. None of the rooms have anything to recommend them and the hotel is unfriendly.
If you wish to, ahem, 'meet' local girls, you will probably have problems trying to take them back to your room at the Rossiya as well.
You'll be able to dial into the internet, of course, but the phone may need a Russian to RJ-11 adapter for you to connect your modem cable.
A day trip to one Golden Ring town would be very rushed, depending on how you travel there.
Generally no problems with photos. |
