they are used every where pretty much...bad ass for sure...partly owned by Diambler-Chrysler Corp. And part of EADS. Russia has very similar ones too...Hmmmm...?

That would make sense, as Daimler Chrysler is a German company.

maybe so...I am not sure...and the technologies are constantly changing. I think the Apache will be around for a while...as will the black hawks. Keep in mind too...there is not a lot of combat proven performance data on so many aircrafts of the world. So it is hard to judge. Regardless...helos are a definite target...because it's hard to guage where the source of return fire comes from...close air support is very vulnerable to enemy fire. The deadliest opponent to a tank or a helo...is a combatant on the ground with a shoulder fired weapon.

I think a helicopter makes a formidable opponent in war. The new Eurocopter has a diamond shaped fuselage ( stealth ability) made entirely from hand formed carbon fibre, making it lighter and stronger than metal, since it doesn't shatter like metal. The instrumentation is all computer touch screen. Apparently it's much quieter than regular choppers. And a jet can't hide behind a hill and pop up unexpectedly to attack. I saw it on Discovery Channel's Daily planet, a Canadian regular on CTV. It was very impressive.

It is impressive...the best! Helicopters are needed for sure in Combat...as a marine we rely on them heavily. Close air support is a must. In Afghanistan and in Somalia our Army and our Navy made two great mistakes by not having Fixed wing support covering the Helos that were shot down. The soviets also suffered this mistake greatly in Afghanistan and in Chechnya-Grosny. Both aircrafts working together can inflict the ultimate damage. Helos are no match for Jets...which is why we always take out the opposing aircraft first and control the skies. Helos are awesome...but scary too...because if they go down...usually its hard with fatal consequences. I've been in them plenty of times.

Yeah, Russia is a dictatorship, and it doesn't have Arabs running it's streets. Unlike Great Democratic France. Laughing Laughing Laughing

For sure. By the way, it will be a good thing if we could send them in your gulags to make them aware how nice and friendly is France.

LOL, you know that the French and the Germans are now the best allies, that's a very good thing I guess we have to thank the Russians for that.
1940... again and again. The French and the German army are among the best of the world, the same with our weapons.

I saw a sneak preview of the new Eurocopter the other day. I think it was called HA-91. The most advanced helicopter in the world. It's quite impressive. Nothing like that in the west, that's for sure.

Mi-28 "Nighthunter", Russia.

It has a special locator/mapping device for the pilot, allowing him to see the surroundings a kilometer away in 3d, including all enemy positions in the area.

Lets face it, BC, the United States and Russia are still leaders in the world, when it comes to weaponry. That's why, put together, we produce, and export, 80% of the world's weapons.

All Europe knows how to do, is "negotiate", and "appease". lol

I'm not familiar with helicopters in war, but would it be dangerous to fly low when you are attacking? Is it an easy target to get shot down by ground artillery? I'm alwasy amazed how helicopters can scope down and rescue the injured without being shot down. How can that be?

The speed of helicopters, such as the ones above, allows them to dodge enemy artillery. However they are still vulnerable to missiles. That is why Mi-28 has all the extra armor. It is an all-purpose attack chopper, and it has to operate in all kinds of "hot-spots": Chechnya, Central Asia, Abkhasia, etc. This helicopter is not made for picking people up though: it is solely for bombing the shit out of the enemy.

Well I have a few friends who were helo pilots in Iraq...it is a scary ordeal. But the Helos can see things so the object is to clear an area first. Then go in. Anyways some cool stuff out there for sure. I like the AC-130 gunships...they can spit out a lot of rounds

Helos provide close air support to the troops on the ground...they can provide watch over a greater area. And they are rapid response too. Plus they carry a lot of weapons and loads. Harriers were designed to be like a helo and a jet...those are pretty cool too and actually did really well in Iraq. Troops need cover from the air. Also the little helos the Blackwater is using there...are also highly effective.
