Nikir,

Don't waste your time with this moron. It is obvious this guy has psychatric issues, he is completely paranoid.

I don't know if it is due to the brain wash in his youth or the brain damages done by vodka, may be both Laughing

Since when was BS guzzling vodka?

Oh well, onwards with the Russian business analysis.

No I was talking about the alcohol addict paranoid moron in chief : Russki.

BS is living on another planet but at least he's nice.

I knew who were originally talking about. Wink However, BS - nice? Wouldn't want to be a Mother Theresa-type working with Indian lepers anywhere near him. He might endorse a human carbeque as a sign of appreciation.

Anyway, that's another story. We eagerly await his Russian business forecasts.

Russki,

I’m not shoving anything in your face. Yet again it’s a comparison of two systems.
My point is to illustrate how a couple of penniless refugees arrived in a new country and something of what they had achieved over 20 years. It was in answer to the point you made here:

“Under Stalin, in 1947, two years after The War, the country has recovered its production levels of 1941, and by 1953, industrial production surpassed 1941 levels by 32%! Yeah, we were moving downhill alright! Think before you type, nikir.”

You made another point about holidays, sure that was one of the rewards for Soviet citizens to go to places like Czechoslovakia or Bulgaria, if I’m not mistaken North Korea was also on the list. What if your father had expressed a wish to go to Hawaii, Fiji or New Zealand? What would the response of the proletariat have been? That’s another fundamental difference. We could. While we couldn’t go to the places that you mentioned, or to Russia, it was a question of access and not egress. We could leave our shores at any time.

All that rubbish about how rich your family was, did insult me. Don't shove it in my face, how your family was so rich, they had two houses (any sane person only needs one???)

Do Russians not have dachas too? It’s just that it happened earlier for us, yet again, because of the opportunities afforded under a democratic capitalist system.

I know we won’t see eye to eye on much, ever, but surely, after the years you have spent in one of the most socially advanced countries in the world just a little bit of realisation is beginning to dawn on you. Enough of the hiding money under the matrass mentality and loud proclamations about donating to charity. You sound like you are trying to buy respect. Can’t be done.

Heh... Rolling Eyes Funny you mention that. I got plenty of stories to tell about living in Canada, as a new immigrant, without English or French language skills, on wellfare, in subsidized housing. But no worries, I am thankfull to our government, even for that. At least I didn't end up on the street. And, in some ways that experience is a part of me, it is a part of what made me the man I am today.

Everything that I achieved here, in Canada, owning my own, pretty suxcessful business, etc., it is all a result of my own hard work, and not any kind of "gift", that the government gave me. I started at the bottom, and I worked my way up in society.

I don't need to buy respect. Although, yes, in some ways you are right. It did, after all, take me donating $5,000 bucks to a cancer charity, to get my neighbours to treat me better.

At last! the penny has dropped.
Sounds like the position my family were in 60 years ago. I wish you every success in the future.

And good that you aren't reacting like I was sticking needles in you with every keystroke. I wasn't.

A grocery store. You know, like Apu, in the Simpsons... 'Xcept mine is called "East Euro Deli", not the "Quick-E-Mart". Laughing We sell different products, from all over Russia, Ukraine, and former USSR. We have halva, Black Russian Bread, Tula's Prianik cookies (I honestly don't know how to translate "prianik" into English, that is actually how it is written on the orice tag! Laughing ), kolbassa, pirogi, ice-cream, and, recently, I got us a license to sell alcohol, so now we carry Ukrainian Horilka, and Russian Vodka too! Very Happy Oh, and people also come and get free Russian-language immigrant newspapers like "Russian valley", and "Vancouver i Mi" ("Vancouver and us"), "Vancouver Express", etc. And no, I don't work behind the counter myself. Not anymore. I have salespeople working for me now. Anther sign of success!Laughing

That's good...I frequent the Russian Markets here in SD...we have 4 that I know of. I like black bread and KIFIR...and when I get to the Ukrain at the end of the month I will be forced to try and speak some Russian. I am now thinking to rent an Apartment and using it as my base to operate out of...then take short jaunts to the places I want to see. This should be cheaper than hotels etc. So I have been eying the different brands at the markets here...just to familiarize myself. It's been a year and a half since I was in Russia so will be starting over again. Going to look for a winter coat tomorrow

Well, just remember, an apartment in Ukraine or Russia, is very different from an apartment in the US of A! Wink And that's all I'll tell you. Find out the rest for yourself. Cool

Thanks!

DV, i don't know why you drag me in to this course in such a offensive slang. if you don't agree with something, then point to that, i will reply. its of course quite common to have a difference of opinion. I never insulted anyone to the best of my knowledge. as i said before, i consider you all as my friends, not by word but by practice. Here in my place a good friend will never ever let his dear ones down. My freinds never expect me to say thanks or sorry. they consider it creating a huge gap. while commenting pls have a balance in your language. I never touched alcohol i don't like even tobacco or even tea. I was brought up in that way. My mom prefers me in that way and i will refrain from anything for her wish.
