We all aren't going to like the same music.

In addition to Alla Pugacheva I also like Masha Rasputina and Philip Kirkorov. I even have music from the USSR State Sympony Orchestra . And I CD with Russian folk music.

Unfortunately I can't find alot of Russian music here in the States.

And I don't do opera and rap.

Kirkorov is a bastard, he offends women. Evil or Very Mad
Anyway Pugacheva and Kirkorov are not popular, it is something to be embarrased about and keep in a profound secret if you like them Very Happy

Alice

Are they doing it to get attention? Alot of celebrities deliberately act up to get free publicity. For some publicity helps to sell records.

From what I have read on Pugacheva, she has at least 30 years in the music business. I wonder if her and her husband are doing this to get press. Especially since she's pushing 50. I don't know how old he is, but I think he is younger than his wife. He's somewhere around 32.

If it wasn't an act, do you thing Masha Rasputina would do a CD with him? Or is she a "bad girl" too?

Aside from whatever character flaws Pugacheva and Kirkorov have, their music still sound good,

Question: Leningrad has any links where there lyrics are translate. Some of the words are translateable(I wonder why).

Whatever happened to Sector Gaza?

Does anyone know any other good Russia Ska bands and clubs?

Many of russian phrases are hard to translate adequately, but we could try Smile ask what exatly you do not understand.

Sector Gaza's history was finished with death of its leader, Hoy.

I don't know what really "SKA" means, but some say that early records of "Auktsion" sounds alot like SKA bands... And if it really does not, it is still one the most independent and beatiful bands

Newbie butting in with his opinion Smile

I think the best way to classify Pugachova/Kirkorov/NIkolayev/etc is 'pop'. What I find distasteful and repuslive about them, personally, is that they're completely not musically talented. They don't write their own music, play no instruments, and lip-sync all their concerts.

Their was an mp3 clip floating around the net recently of the sounds that come out of Kirkorov's mouth when he lip-synchs during his concerts.

My understanding of the word 'musician' is someone with a musical talent. They write music, play instruments, and sing live songs. Maybe the 'material' that Pugachova and other so called 'zvyozdi estradi' produce nowadays is audibly pleasing, but I find it hard to call them musicians.

I think there is some generally interesting Russian 'rock' (not heavy metal, just good rock) like Chaif, Tansy Minus, Spleen, Zveri, etc, and that's more interesting to listen to, or at least, more deserving of our respect than the Russian equivalents of Britney Spears.

Comrade,

Well, they play their own instruments, sing live in concerts and don't have electronically produced music, so I wouldn't put them in the same category as cheesy Kirkorov popsa. Maybe their music is more pop than some of the other people I listed, but I don't think they're in the same category as Igor Nikolaev and Alla Ustala.

I just found this great website where you can listen to all different types of Russian music, as well as purchase CDs and DVDs. I thought it might be useful to some of you...

I highly recommend Zemfira, and you can download most of her songs for free (and legally) from http://www.zemfira.ru. Just click on the AUDIO link at the bottom and leech away.
