I don't mean to dismiss your enthralling discussion about networking, but I need to get back off topic again.

Ok, here's one for the "Off Topic". After waiting three hours at the Spanish Consulate (oh yes, must be there in person), waiting hours in line only for them to send us to back to fill out our applications on double-sided rather than single sided paper (this trick was pulled on most everyone, as it is not mentioned anywhere that this is needed), and dealing in the kindest way with people who didn't speak English very well, but who were adament that I was the one confused, I have come to the following conclusion: The Russian visa process is not bad!!

Ok, you may need an invitation, which you can get here for approximately $30 bucks, no sweat. Other than that, just get passport pics, passport and applications and mail it in. Based on how much you pay, you can be assured of the time it will take to get your visa. Not the case with the Spanish embassy. I felt like I was trying to get a job with the CIA. I needed originals and copies of everything under the sun, I was told that my visa should be ready by January 11th...almost a month away! I am so glad we changed our plans from leaving January 4th, to Feb 4th, as we would not have made it. As I was waiting there, I had a thought I never had before with regards to any Russian system: thank you for your efficiency.

Yeah, had I only wanted to go for under 90 days it would have been cake, but since I'm applying for a student visa, it was hellacious! I'm really excited, still nervous, but mostly excited. I'm pretty conservative, so the idea of just leaving my job (without one to come back to) is a little scary.

When do you leave again? And for how long?

Jo Jo - you're still on this site? I am surprised. I think you should be browsing eHarmony and Match.com right now. Your future soul mate is out there waiting for you in Louiseville.

How do you know? I think the internet is the best place to find your soul mate - seriously. In this busy and interconnected world, internet allows one to find a good match. Both me and pretty much all of my friends found their future spouses online (and most are happily married). Very common among Russian immigrants.
