I have been emailing a lady from Moscow since November 5th 2004 and have spent all of last week with her in Moscow. We have decided that we would like to marry in UK. I am applying for a 12 month multi-entry visa to visit her next month.

Reading many of the threads here, it seems there may be many complications for her to come to the UK for marriage....or am I misunderstanding the situation? Your advice on how we should proceed would be most gratefully received.

Aries2407,
Misreading I think. A single russian female has LESS chance of getting a tourist visa to the UK.

I would trawl the web for the UK immigration web-site as it will list all forms and requirements that you/she will need to complete.

As a guide, better collect all your correspondence and photographs of you two together (phone bills as well). You from your side, she from hers as you will certainly be asked to provide proof of a relationship.

I wouldn't mind betting the fiancee visa costs a hell of a lot more....

Thanks UsualSuspect

Are you suggesting that the Fiancee visa is the right way to go? Is it important to the authorities how long the relationship has been going? The cost is not uppermost in my mind, just being together. I am just looking for the best way forward.

With a multi entry visa I can visit Moscow as often as I like and stay there for a month or so, so seeing her is not the problem. Getting her back to the UK as my wife is the problem.

Aries2407,
It's a choice, but with risks. You and she can certainly try to get her a tourist visa to the UK, but the authorities care little for personal happiness and the chances of denial are infinitely greater simply because the UK rates SRF's as a high risk catergory. It is also easy to rubber stamp "no" than make a considered decision. Others have been successful, but this tends to hide a lake of misery at the rejection rate. Ring the immigration bods and query them on requirements and ask how often the success rate is.

As a sponsored fiancee, you have a much, much higher probability of getting the visa if the UK requirements are met.

As something else for you to investigate, please don't make the assumption that getting married in Russia will cause you less problems when it comes time to get a Spouse Visa.

Read up on all the types and their requirements......

UsualSuspect, thanks but is there nothing positive I can take from this?

There must be some positive aspect to having a girlfriend in Russia apart from the odd dirty weekend. I have read the requirements of the spouses and the fiancé visas before coming here and could not find anything particular that we would fall foul of.

What I was looking for is someone who has experience of the process to advise on the best way to proceed and specifically what the pitfalls are.

Is there a visa agent in Moscow that anyone knows of who can advise on this type of visa? Surely I am not the only one here to have fallen for a Russian girl.

Aries2407,
Yes, there is help, maybe not at this site. When I started looking at ways and means of getting my fiancee over here (Oz) I tripped over :

www.rwguide.com

They definitely have members from the UK who may help you.
