I will be traveling to St. Petersburg next week, and I have a tourist visa. I will be staying for 1 week, so I will need to register my visa. In the past I have always just had it done through the hotel I was staying at. However, I will probably be staying with friends.
My question is what are my options and process for getting my visa registered if I am not staying at a hotel? Or am I forced to stay 1 night in a hotel to havfe it registered (I think they will do it for me if I stay 1 night).
I appreciate your help. |

| well your friends are supposed to be able to register you at the post office. But there are places that will register you for like $30 There is one on Nevsky prospect across from Nevsky Palace Hotel...I think the address is 78 Nevsky Prospekt...anyways have your friends research it first. |

At the post office? I am sorry to ask, but how does this work? My friend just takes me there and they just stamp my visa after asking where I am staying?

Not sure and this is a new deal...but has been mentioned here. Ask the consulate too. HAve your friends look into all this for you |

Where did you get this from? |
My GF took me to this place to register my tourist visa and I was staying with her...then on my next planned trip...when I got my business visa...via WTR...low and behold...they referred me to the same place. So I earth googled the address and yes it is the same as where I went to previously. |

So you are content to regurgitate ancient processes. Contemporary travellers want contemporary solutions. It's better with visa questions to say nothing if you can't give a straightforward and correct answer. |

You mentioned that along with "not sure" "ask your friends" "ask the consulate" etc, etc.
My point is, if you cannot answer something, just shut up.
The object of this site is after all to entice Russian travel. You don't do a whole lot to achieve this.
You should confine your comments to the talk lounge, where you can happily spread your fantasies, amongst your gang of four.
I'll leave it at that. The mods can have a look. |

Nikir...stop coming on to threads for the sake of arguement...the poster want to know what his options are so I gave him several. I gave him a specific address of where to register his visa: 78 Nevsky Prospekt. You sent him to a link that goes to support one of the options I mentioned...The Post Office!
John...sorry about this kook from down under...I take it you are American. As I mentioned yes try the post office. It has been mentioned here too though that some have had trouble with that and for others it worked like a champ. I gave you a legit address that the visa support company offered by WTR gave to me to register my 1 year business visa which I obtained in fall of 2006. Turned out it was the same address that I used earlier that year for my tourist visa. Anyway it is an option if the postal deal is troublesome. Always you can ask the consulate questions regarding visa registration...thats what they are there for. As mentioned recently here on WTR by a fellow Californian...the SF consulate has proved to be very user friendly. And I too share these same sentiments. Anyway...good luck |
