Hi there,
I know it doesn't make any sense to generalize the whole society. But, I do have some clarifications on this specific situation. My date, russian girl from a small village looks nice and not a gold digger. But most of the times, she is demanding, stubborn and want me to do what she wants. Moreover, she always discusses everything with her girl friends and I feel that they influence greatly on her character. All I feel is that she doesn't have individuality or playing tricks with me. Is this quiet normal for a russian girl? What does she expects from a man abroad if she is not a gold digger? She maintains silence with a smile, when I started conversation in general about Russian men during our first meeting. (Hint: I have never been to russia, but do understand some cultural differences)

| Advice, you will understand why Russian men were so willing to sacrifice their lives to face German gun fire or why they drink so much, it is because their women. I have dated a couple and I think I rather roll naked in broken glass and vinegar than ever date another. The men who these women say horrible things about are great guys. When they get older, they all look like Peg Bundy with their Animal pattern clothes and too much make up. It was Pega Bundiova. They cook dishes flavourless garbage with sour cream or mayonaise. Force you to listen to pop music that has void of any talent. If you are not romantic 24/7, in their cultural they are justified to sleep with your best friend. If you go to Russia store, the shop girl will have the seat sowed to her clothes so she will not be able to help you. Why Russian men die at an early age, because they will themselves to death than live with these creatures. Married with Children is a Russian show. |

| Patricks.....My friend who is Russian, does not act demanding. She is a very sweet girl and respects her husband as a wife. In the short while I have known her she has never been bossy to him that I can see. I just think you had a bad experience with your girl. |

This was my first experience and she is also Student in an university. I think what Paul Holmes said is true atleast in my case. (may be the case they got cultural shock and goes crazy. But certainly she is opportunistic)
She do wears animal skin kind of dress. Atfirst she seems to be submissive, kind, shy and interested in me. But she changes quickly once if she smells that I am interested. Nothing in the world is free and even for the love/ affection I do expect something in return. All from her side is very demanding and needy. I am not her play toy/ Puppy. She have got large friends circle and she doesn't cares to maintain anything personal between us. I feel like dating the whole group. I felt no intimacy and all I noticed after that they are spoofing and mocking behind. (But, I heard from the internet is a very different story. Perhaps I am not lucky enough to meet like the one). Anyway thank god that I realised now and saved from this girl with little hurt on my part.

My belief is this. In Russia, there is no in between. Rich poor, generous cruel and so on.
If she likes, there is nothing better. If she keeps you distant then leave.
Russian women are suppose to act more feminine that an American, if you talk about be moody, demanding and think they are princesses, then you are right. Heavens do not ever win an argument and prove them wrong, because they will ignore you and plan their revenge. The days of good soviet girls in which they were outdoorsy, friendly, happy with modest stuff is now gone.
Now we have the ones who thing that they are all models, have to buy name brand anything, flip boyfriends like Russian men flip girl friends, and needy. Until they are 30 years old with couple of kids from different fathers and beauty has faded so they are no longer the boss' favorite and younger cute one has her job, then she will be kind respectful.
MY GOD, it sounds like every other woman in North America. |

Paul...utter nonsense....sometimes I wonder how much you seeeem to know about women...I get so tired of the negative and insensitive comments us American women get from men like you...American women are feminine as well as any other woman. Stop being so narrow minded on women. Where is BS, he needs to lend his book on women to you.

| I say, just leave her. It appears that she doesn't seem like a nice person and who wants to date someone plus have all her friends hanging out with you too. Date a nice girl who is interested in you and only you. |

Jo Jo loves to point out how wonderful American women are, and how the feminist revolution has not affected many of them, contrary to the experience of many men who choose to date and marry immigrants and foreign women if they have a chance to do so. For example, here in New York, an ever-increasing number of white American men date Asian women that are known as more "understanding" and less "feminist" than typical American women.
At the same time Jo Jo loves to point out how no men in her home town meet her stringent "standards" I would think she would be more understanding towards men that find so many US women unacceptable for whatever reason... |

What was your experience with "good soviet girls" no make sch generalizing comparison? I hope it is not gathered from soviet movies. |

Isn't your wife Russian? Where is the baby she is suppose to have? Oh, her career comes first...Haven't you been married to her for 10 years? Wow, no baby yet..you have put your foot down on that one...
It is usually the two-timer losers who cheat, fat, bald, lazy and arrogant American men who go and fetch the foreign girls, so hats up to the foreign women who can put up with this type of man...she wants a green card and will divorce later.....  Us American women are great. We do have a problem with those type of men and that might get confused with the feminist. I am no where near feminist. I do have better standards. I don't want a man who drinks all day and is lazy.
What do you consider understanding? Understandings can go 100 different directions. Cheating for example: I am cheating on you so you understand okay.....I don't think any woman understanding or not is going to put up with that. |

I believe you just found a "bad apple." My fiance is the exact opposite, sure she talks with friends and whatnot but her belief is what we do in our relationship is our business. Granted she isn't from Moscow or SpB so that may be a factor in it as well. She lives in Volgograd which isn't quite as westernized as those cities, but it's also not in the dark ages either. She is very understanding, communicative, and compromising.
I don't know if I just got lucky and found the needle in the haystack, but from all of her friends and family it seems to be a pretty common thing. I'm not to sure about women from Moscow / SpB as I haven't really met any from there, but I say take it all with a grain of salt.
On the other side look at her upbringing, if her father was an alcoholic and the mother ran the house, that may be all she knows.
As far as what to expect if she is not a gold digger. I know from my own personal experiences that my fiance is looking for a companion, what we in the US consider old fashioned (the family comes first) is normal for her. Unlike most American women in general who compete against each other for everything (money, assets, clothes) their value of "self worth" is a successful and happy family.
I am not well off, I'm the typical middle class American, and she understands that she isn't going to get anything that her heart desires, but she also knows that the security, and the future family that she desires is exactly what we both have in each other.
I would recommend just being blunt and flat out ask her what she wants in life, and what about you interests her. Based on that make your judgement call.
Russian women in general are sort of reserved to strangers when first meeting (whether it be in person or e-mail) but if the connection is there they will quickly warm up to you. There is also just the instance that she is shy and doesn't want to make the mistake of saying the wrong thing. If this is the case just make her feel comfortable, secure, and believe that if she makes a mistake you will help her without making her feel smaller than you. Keep this mentallity and you will do fine:
You are equals, and offer nothing but understanding, cooperation, and support for each other. |

Too much experience unfortunately.
Jo Jo, Face it the western cultural is self rotting situation. Feminist although not completely wrong have left a vacuum at home when they left to go to work. Is it their fault ? No, but there is no one home and nobody what to have a family anymore or just two children then back to work to afford an over consumption lifestyle.
Feminine, well have you been to Russia? I think not. many of these ladies will suffer greatly in order to look more beautiful in crap that Marquis De sade created for Women's fashion. There is a 100m race in in high heels, let see an American lady try that. JO JO, I am not looks , but I am talking feminine. Anyone has been to Russia will agree with me. |

It's quite humorous to see Russian women walking in high heels. They just don't know how...jeez drag queens in America do a better job with heels. As far as makeup goes, what can you say, "send in the clowns"... |
