Hi
As a first time traveller to Siberia I have been booked on a flight to Moscow SVO airport with a connecting flight from Moscow VKO airport, I speak and read no Russian and would welcome ideas on the best way of completing this transfer and expected costs.
Ps I leave Monday so answers needed PDQ if you can help.
Many thanks

It depends on arrive and depart time ( regarding to possible traffic difficulties mostly). The cheapest - minibus or bus from SVO to metro ( rechnoy vokzal or planernaya, depending on what comes first ) ( about 40 min - 1hr ), then if you are to be in VKO before 13:00 or after 18:00, ride to Kievskaya station( 40 min ), find a VKO ticket office, then ride the Vnukovo express ( ~40min travel time ) ( like http://www.vnukovo.ru/eng/for-passengers/registration/railway/index.wbp ). Total rur 150.
If waiting 2 hours for suitable train from 1300 to 1700 is not an option, then instead of Kievskaya goto Yugo-Zapadnaya and take a bus/minibus to airport ( probably about 30 rur ). Not recommended in workday evening ( traffic ).

Taxi. There is no proper public transit connection between SVO and Vuknovo. It can be done of course, but it would take hours and hours and be nearly impossible without some small command of Cyrillic.

There is no decent way out of SVO by public transit to anywhere. SVO is a craphole of an airport in perpetual disarray. A train is under construction but won't be completed till 2008.

Your best bet is to have a pre-arranged taxi waiting for you at SVO. Otherwise you will be at the mercy of the taxi mafia at the airport. They may charge up to 3,000 rubles ($100) for such a trip. It's outrageous, but with a dearth of decent transit and a total lack of Russian, what ya gonna do?

Not nice, not good news, but true. Sad

Thanks for the responses guys,

My arrrival time in SVO is 14:40 and departure from VKO is 19:55 so I guess it must be a taxi,

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask..............

If you are going to haggle with the taxi Mafia at SVO, be prepared to barter.

If you have no Russian, get your destination written (typed) in Cyrillic and take a pad and pen and haggle with them that way, there are many to choose from, they will ambush you as you walk out. When they realise you are not a chump, they may start to talk sense.

Make sure you have Rubles and pay no more than the agreed price, and if you are American I should add, NO TIP. Its not necessary or expected and he will charge you enough anyway. Very Happy
