AliceFromMoscow WayToRussified Joined: 10 Jul 2004 Posts: 411	Posted: Sat Dec 25, 2004 8:20 am    Post subject: we dont celebrate catholic christmas catholicism is not popular here the main holiday of the year is new year... we celebrate it in the same way as you celebrate christmas.. our christmas is january 7th so i guess i spent christmas sitting in front of computer on the net... i assume its about 12.18 am december 25th on eastern coast of the usa now )

After the supper, 'secret friend' (each one is responsable for a gift to somebody). And then, fireworks on the beach. It ended about 3 o'clock AM. It was a warm night. We could also swim a little.

We went to a candelight Lord's Supper at the church (Protestant) with about 600 other friends. We were served small squares of unleavened bread and a very small glass of grape juice. From there my parents side of the family, mainly my wife, our kids and my parents met for supper at my house. everything homemade, ham, quail, sweet potatoes, rolls, green beans, slaw, salads, and fudge for dessert. Most of us drank sweet iced tea (southern style). During this time we reminenced with my children and they talked about funny things that happened when they were young. Afterwards we exchanged gifts. My 4 year old granddaughter became the center of attention as she opened her gifts. Everyone not staying for the night left about 10 pm. My 2 sons are the only ones left at home and both are in college. While they were doing other things my wife and I laid out their presents from "Santa Claus". When they were younger, along with their older sister, they would have to go to bed first and always seemed to wake up at about 2 am and come downstairs and find what "Santa" had brought. Those days are long gone but the tradition continues. Christmas Day we all went to my daughters house for lunch and to see what Santa had brought Alli. On Monday Dec 27 we will finish our Christmas celebrations by visiting my wifes parents and other siblings for lunch and another exchange of gifts. Her side of the family has gotten so large that we draw names. We are waiting until Monday because my wife's sister lives in California. There are 10 grandchildren on this side of the family and they take turns reading the Christmas story before opening presents. A different grandchild reads the story each year.

I got to take my new Toyota Sienna for its , maiden trip. We listened tro Christmas carols and played games driving there. All the children were very excited to open presents. Lots of eating, some drinking, but not too much since we were driving back trhat night. Everyone had a merry time. On Christmas day my parents, sisters, brother, nieces and nephew came to our house for the day. My brother in law had just gotten out of hospital from a bad auto accident 2 weeks ago where he fell asleep driving and hit a tree. With broken leg, hip and other injuries, he managed to come in a wheelchair. We are all thankful he is alive though he has a long recovery ahead. . Everyone feasted on turkey, roast beef, etc,, made toasts, drank champagne and beer, My son played with all of his new toys. My brother in law spend most of the day lying down on the couch and in considerable pain. Adults shared stories, news, laughter and mildly fought with each other. . We are not the perfect Walton family! All in all we had a nice christmas with family.
