nusik Just Starting Joined: 14 Jan 2008 Posts: 2 Location: Toronto	Posted: Mon Jan 14, 2008 4:41 am    Post subject: Russian citizenship - reinstate or withdraw? I left Russia in May 1992 and never visited Russia since. A few months ago I decided to visit Russia as tourist for ten days and contacted Russian consulate in Toronto. I was told that I'm not eligible to a visa due to fact that I still have Russian citizenship and that the only way for me to visit Russia is to apply for new Russian passport. Can I withdraw my Russian citizenship instead? How it could be done? Do I need to pay for that?

Paul-Holmes Lounge Wizard Joined: 12 Apr 2005 Posts: 1073	Posted: Mon Jan 14, 2008 11:43 pm    Post subject: Why bother? Too much pay and hassle. You have both your Russian passport and Canadian. Most Russians carry both when travelling and it can help have a dual citizenship once in awhile.

This is a problem. You can neither withdraw your Russian citizenship, because for this procedure you need valid domestic and "zagranichnyi" passports.
