The Hermitage also accepts cards - Visa or MasterCard. In order to cover your tickets with the card you will have to show your passport.

No, it's Russia, they bill in rubles. Your credit card company will bill you in whatever your home currency is & most will perform the exchange rate at favorable rates.

One thing to watch out for, though, is whether your credit card company applies a surcharge for international purchases. Read the fine print on your agreement or call your bank.

I paid for a hotel stay a few years ago with a Citibank Mastercard - it was a few thousand dollars and I actually had a few thousand USD with me (which I could have converted and paid in rubles), but decide that I could use the USD later in my trip and paid for the hotel with the Mastercard. Imagine my surprise when I saw the credit card bill and they had added something like 2% to the transaction. I was pissed.

Just go get some rubles - you're going to need them for everything else. Take dollars or euros with you (or whatever your home currency) and convert them when you get to the airport, or withdraw rubles from an ATM.

Smile
