Hi,
I'm new to the forum, but I've been a regular visitor to the site.
Wanted to ask if anybody could help me out with a recommendation?
I'm from the UK and I've got a Russian girlfriend who I met over here, I'm supposed to be staying with her and her family from February 3rd to February 10th (2005).......
So i need to know what's the quickest and best way to get a visa that'll let me see her.........
Or am I up shit creek?
Cheers |

The quickest and easiest way is to get a tourist visa. If you want to get a private visa, you will need to have your girlfriend get a invitation for you. The invitation takes time to get and she has to send you the original, not a copy. I have found that it is more trouble than it is worth. A tourist visa, on the otherhand just requires a faxed invitation. I believe that there is a sponsor on this site who can do it for you. Basically, you pay a fee and they send you a tourist invitation.
I have had both types and always get a tourist visa now. It is much easier. |

| Hey freeman.. ashton is right about the Homestay Visa. You do have to wait about a month to get a Invitation from your girl and it does have to be the original. But with the tourist visa i thought you need a confirmation from a hotel. Meaning you have to book a hotelt to get a Tourist visa. I just got my Homestay visa and it took 1month and a week. I had to wait for invitation which took 1 month and i paid $200 USD to get a next business day visa. which took a week. So i dunno if u can get a tourist visa witout getin a confirmation from a hotel. |

Same as you - met Russian gf whilst she was over here, since visited her 5 times in last year!!
I've tried both, both have advantages and disadvantages.
Private (home) visa, more difficult for gf - she has to go to passport office fill in forms, deal with unhelpful staff, pay a small amount of money into a bank somewhere, fill in more forms, queue up - having seen inside a russian passport office it is a real palava. It has the advantage that if your gf is willing to do all this she must be keen on you!! But is does take time. And the longer it takes to get you invitation the shorter time you have to get visa, the shorter the time the more expensive it gets... ( www.rusemblon.org)
She then sends you the invitation, (possibly around £20 by DHL type carrier)
Relatively easy to register - go to passport office where she got invitation from fill in more forms and pay about 40 pence.
Tourist Visa,
Loads of companies including on this site can provide you with invitation. I used another one before i knew about this site, easy to get the form (faxed copy is ok so can be done almost instantly) Use this to get visa from embassy, if you are staying in hotel no problem but previously when I have used tourist visa whilst staying in friends house I have had problems registering it. Once got round it by gf's dad paying airport security guard £20 !!! Next time we went to Passport office and had a lot of forms to fill in, and another fee, and not very satisfactory- now gf always does private visas.
If the tourist agency you get visa from has an office in the city you are going to and and can help you register it I think this would be the best solution. |
