Hi All,
I have a tourist visa, and plan to make a trip on the trans-mongolian starting in about 10 days. However, I don't have my train tickets yet, as I planned to buy them in Moscow. Someone told me that on entering russia, officals can ask to see your exit tickets, which I don;t have. How likely Will I be denied entry because of this. Should I buy an exit ticket (not easy as I'm in latvia at the moment) just to please the officials? I appreciate your help.
All the best, tom. |

They won't ask to see your exit tickets. They'll simply see that your visa is in order and grunt and wave you through. If they do, by chance, ask, simply tell 'em you're gonna go buy some train tickets. If you're exiting through China, then maybe you have a Chinese visa already and you can show them that.
I've entered several times and never been asked when I planned on leaving.

| Thanks for your quick reply! However, do you think that visa requirements might be tighter recently? Also I'm a british citizen, and our russian relations are iffy... |

I think you'll be just fine (but then again, I won't be the guy facing down the customs guy...!). If you're really worried about it, gin up a phony confirmation of a return ticket from someplace like expedia.com and tell the guy you have a e-ticket for return.
They're not gonna give you a hard time.
