Hi

Hmm, I'm planning a trip in the Transsiberian for April and I have a few questions that have probably been already asked. I did a search of this forum but couldnt come up with what I needed so..

1. I know there are a lot of stops in the Moscow-Beijing route where you can stay for days but I cant really afford all of them so I'm wondering which cities shouldnt I miss, the ones I should stay in for at least a couple days.

2. Do I have to bring my own covers? and how many? (considering there must be a limited space for luggage)

thanks in advance Razz

Hi,
Well, it depends what are looking for Confused
I can give you just a few tips: in my opinion, large cities are not so worthwile. You will find more interesting some small towns with certain past. In Ural mountains, there are towns of Miass and Zlatoust in Chelyabinsk region (this is actually a small deviation from Transsib wich lies to the north), famous since 18th century for mines and metal works and precios stones found around, and there are many old crafts connected stones and metal; greatest cities of Siberia are Omsk, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk. Of them most interesting is probably Krasnoyarsk which combines history of typical siberian city - first, military fortification, then, trade center, then, industrial and administrative center - with unique nature just at the outskirts of the city - Stolby (meaning "poles" in russian) - numerious vertical rocks of various shape, spread on large surface; Irkutsk is near the Baikal lake, which is a must see; Novosibirsk is huge megapolis - third city in Russia after Moscow and Spb; Omsk is a bit older and more quiet; 4 hours drive from Novosibirsk is the city of Tomsk, founded in 1604 - if you want to know history of siberia, this is the place. To the south are Altai mountains - unique nature and berth of civilizations. The choice is up to you Smile
