I was wondering about locals renting rooms as opposed to a hotel, any idea if this is possible or where I might look?

You are looking to get ripped off aren't you?
This site has a section called Flatmate, the owner of this site can confirm this. Also there is apartments so if you have many friends, you can rent a flat and stay there for fraction of the cost.
Also try to look other site for hotels and such.

It is June and it is to celebrate the longest day which is June 23 (I think). Sun never really goes down.

Bee

I think paul is right, theres prob a nicer way of putting it but further searching on this site and others will prob give you the answers your looking for. Dont kid yourself though its still not cheap.

I leave in a few weeks money doesnt really mean anything to me but still for me to stay in Moscow for 6 days and STP for 8 its costing me roughly around $4000 CDN. Thats just the flat not to mention all the other expen.

If your going to do something like this make the most of it dude i plan on spending 8000 by the time im done.

Amazing Memories cost money dude.....best of luck!!!!!

I grew up in Oakland...well part of my child hood (Lake Merrit)...ok listen you are going to SPB at the most expensive time and finding a hotel will be difficult and very very expensive. So you need to really get on reserving something. Also you can always stay out side of Nevsky Prospect area and still get to see everything...take the metro etc. But yes make the plans now....sooner the better

You can try to look at http://flatmates.ru/eng/ -- this is our site for finding roommates for short- or long-term.

Also try posting something on Craigslist

I'd also try http://hospitalityclub.org and http://couchsurfing.com

Finally, try to book an apartment if you're a lot of people, maybe it'll help.

I managed SPB during the White Nights for about 100euros a night staying at a Russian chain of small hotels. If you end up in a western hotel then you're looking at a good $300+ a night.

In Moscow in October I found another small chain of Russian hotels as well. Had a metro ride to get anywhere but that was doable to get my $150 a night rate anyway. Downtown was insanely priced. Plus I got to ride their nice metro more. Smile
