Hi all, I have a question regarding a visa situation. I already have a tourist visa to go to Russia later this week. A friend of mine from Ukraine was going to come to Moscow to visit but changed his mind. He instead wants me to go to Kiev to visit him for a day or two. I have a single-entry tourist visa for Russia only and no visa at all for Ukraine. My friend is telling me that I can get the visa in Russia to go to Ukraine and that a single entry visa to Russia is fine as Ukraine is not considered to be really leaving Russia. I don't believe it at all. I think that I will need to get a visa to Ukraine before I leave and would have to change my single-entry to a multiple-entry visa. If this is the case, it is not possible before I leave.

Am I missing something or is my friend a bit misinformed?

Your friend is misinformed, it might be the rules for him but not for you.

A Russian visa does not allow entry to Ukraine, however the USA citizens have some simplified procedure entering Ukraine: either you don't need visa at all if you visit for a few weeks only or you can get a visa without an invitation. In any case, contact the Ukrainian consulate and ask them.
