I'll be staying in Moscow at a private home, but I would like to avoid the hassle of doing a private stay registration.

I have seen in other posts that some hotels do the registration for a small fee, even if one isn't staying there. Could anybody recommend a hotel in Moscow that provides this for a cheap fee?

Try any of the hostels in Moscow. Except maybe for Godzilla's, they all use an agency to provide registration for guests (the agency provides registration at a different hotel). I don't see why they couldn't do it for you, although maybe you'll have to pay for one night. Trans-Siberian Hostel might be a good bet since they just give guests the contacts of the agency rather than take care of things on behalf of the guests.
