To All,
I have a planned visit to Moscow in March, 2005 to work with university students for a week. I have no idea what to expect. My two college age sons are coming with me.

Any clues as to what I can expect? For instance characteristic behaviors, basic outlook on life, dress, habits. Of course this will require a generalization.

Also what type of weather should I plan to prepare for?
Thanks

Russian students look like european or american students.

Maybe, depending to what university, institute you are going, the classrooms furniture could be a little shabby for your experience. The flashy mobilephones in the studentpockets however are the same as anywhere.

What i often hear is that there is some difference in the teacher/student relation. During the lecture the teacher speaks and the students listen. Outside the classes it will be easier to speak in an informal way with the students. But i quess this also depends on the circumstances. What i am trying to say is that when the students during a lecture seem somewhat unresponsive this does not necesarily have to be your fault or theirs, just a cultural difference.

Camrade, I will be working with university students in an informal setting, internet cafes etc. Can you share some more insights concerning typical university students?

hmm... that's quite dififcult question.
but i suppose there woun't be any dificulties or obstacles with them Smile Students are very talkative, vast majority of them speak english and it would be interesting for them to talk with an american.

patrick:

i just came across the folowing research

it is a research done by a westerner interviewing russian youngsters 14-25 who eventually turned up in a western evangelical christian church about their memories of their youth and the role religion played in their lives.

imho it harbors some misconceptions about the orthodox faith, but the research is very good.

currah.info/www/harris/youth_1_ignorance&apathy.pdf

this link although weird is correct. a pdf file should download
