There is currently a limit on the number of Metro tokens a person may buy - it is 4 per person. Apparently this is to stop people stocking up before an imminent price rise.
The current price seems to be 14R (not the 5R on http://www.waytorussia.net/SaintPetersburg/GettingAround.html - maybe a good time to update that with the price rise?) but I've been told nobody knows what the new token price will be.
Does anybody happen to know what the new price will be? |

I actually bought 10 yesterday, plus a card.....
So I don't think there is a limit...
The price is indeed 14 R. per token... |

Interesting. When my Fiancee tried to buy 8 the other day, she had to justify buying more than 4 by showing I was with her. |

Stranger and stranger. At Veteranov Prospect Metro station, all the auto ticket machines have been turned off, supposedly to stop people buying too many because of the price rise.
Maybe there is no price rise, just broken machines and token conservation.
Thanks for the replies, Pete. |

I have bought 14 today for 200 RUR. However I have heard that too.
I think it may also be to prevent resellers at peak hours. |

Bus fare yesterday was already up to 16 rubles. But - do not be greedy! Renenber about min. 4 pounds per ride in London tube (at least 200 rbl)... _________________ I do provide guiding both in St.Petersburg and Moscow - museums, theatre tickets, transportations, visa free services for cruise passengers.

How much more do resellers charge for a Metro ticket at peak hours? |

Never seen any in St.Petersburg. They do exist in Moscow - but I do not know their tariffs... _________________ I do provide guiding both in St.Petersburg and Moscow - museums, theatre tickets, transportations, visa free services for cruise passengers.

Pete, you were quite right here.
I just got back from Moscow this morning, and at the Ploshad Vosstania Metro station the tokens are now 17R. |

yes, they are 17 rubles per one now (from 1st April), but to safe your money you can buy a card for several metro (underground) trips. It's good if you are planning to ussualy usw underground during your trip.
Also note that public transport ticket costs 16 rubles now. _________________ Explore Russia with us!
