I like China I think it's a beautiful place. But I think the USA and China needs to disconnect relations ASAP. Somewhere along the line our government (USA) has the idea it's "we the government" and NOT "we the people" ... what I don't understand is China was happy the "world's policeman" took a blow on Sept. 11, 2001 ... then dish out 10 billion to our government for Iraq. Sooo, something sounds fishy to me. But, that's just me. Me as a simple person would say the people of China are friends, as for our "we the government" I would say China's government is a threat. That's just what I think.

China has never acted aggressively (i.e. actually launching an attack and invading another country). I don't think it could fall in the category of "foe" when looked at from that point of view. Whatever they are doing as a rising economic superpower they have every right to do, and with progress comes increased military spending, outer space projects, etc. Just like all the other rich and progressive nations. Oh, I certainly hope this post isn't due to the Tibet thing on the news? The Olympics stunt?

PS: I also hope it isn't fear of the 'yellow stain'? Smile

China buys U.S. debt ( U.S. Treasury Bills/ Notes/ Bonds, etc. ) = friend.
China has 200+ nuclear warheads and missiles capable of reaching U.S. = threat. Both apply, take your pick.

Do not worry. When they achieve enough military power they invade somewhere. USA is perfect example of this behaviour.

Ooooh, that damn Mao always ruining everything.Smile I stand corrected. As for China being friend or foe, I guess it just depends on whose point of view it is. For multinational corporations setting camp (i.e. Google, MSN, Walmart, General Motors, etc.) it's friend. For anybody who wears Nike trainers and posts in forums using notebooks/desktop PC's with parts made in China, it's also friend, no matter how indirectly.

And Ender, I do agree with you. I also fear the day that relative success will get into their heads and greed take them over. But then that has always been the downfall of mankind. It's not peculiar to China. Right now all has got their eyes on her simply because she's rising quickly.

Oh, finally got around to finishing the article. It's biased and a tad xenophobic. Like it is telling its readers to "beware the awful China, US and EU are much better because of its "better" human rights record and democracy." That's bull.
